The same MB + CPU package goes for $149.
Since Outpost is now Fry's they should honor their B&M price.

Just picked up a combo from the Fremont Fry's. Like a previous poster said, there's a huge stack of them there still, but the offer expires today.

Okay...so does anyone have a verdict? Will Outpoost p/m the B&M price? I'm looking for an upgrade from my Duron 850, and I like the looks of this (inexpensive) board. I have found online prices through Pricewatch for about $110-115, but resellerratings.com gives bad reviews for all of the companies listing this price. (of course, one person's review pointed out that the companies with almost identical prices all are the same company selling under different names) I also noticed that they only offer a 15-day warranty on the chip, and that is unacceptable. I could BUY an extended warranty, but if I spend that kind of money, I might as well buy the retail chip because the prices would then be comparable!

Although I'd rather have the retail box, I'd buy an OEM processor if I was sure the company was reputable and would offer a decent warranty.

So has anyone tried to get this from Outpost, either through the web or by calling?

Please advise!

I bought this combo yesterday and the damn thing won't run at 1667MHz. It will only post at 1250MHz. I put a super-duper fan on it and I get it to run at 1667Mhz for like 2 seconds before it freezes. I searched and found that others have had the same problem with the 133 FSB. Anyone else with similar problems? Which is bad the mobo or the chip? Either way both are going back. ECS sucks.

ECS does not suck if you get everything set up. There are way many more variables than just the cpu and motherboard. What ram are you using? What power supply? Is the power supply AMD approved?

I highly doubt this would work because people have asked this before and have been shot down.

I installed this combo yesterday on a friends PC. You definantly want to make sure you have a decent powersupply (I recommend 300 watts). He wanted me to put his 140W back in there! There were two settings in bios which were set to 100Mhz. I changed both to 133Mhz and it booted to 1667 no problems. Pain installing the new drivers on a hard drive with previous motherboard drivers. IRQ conflicts, etc. One thing to note for those thinking about purchasing one...it has 2 SDRAM slots and 2 DDR slots.

This is a great processor. The tbred's are known for their overclocking abilities.

It's a 0.18 micron Palomino. Got mine last week and started playing around with it. They're probably just trying to get rid of all the Palomino's still in stock.

yup, but unless your going to bother messing with the bridges on the chip to up voltage u can't oc much with any chip on an ecs. no voltage adjustment in bios. htere is a modded bios with more fsb speeds for fsb oc, but that will only get you so far. the 2000+ gets to 2100+ pretty easy:p

To unlock a Palomino, what about just shorting the pins (the two specific pins) together on the chip? I have seen this done with a small piece of wire wrapped around two of the pins on the CPU, and it seems to work fine. It is esentially doing the same thing as the new Nforce2 motherboards (they short the same two pins, only on the socket itself).

Fantastic deal, jumped on it in Ft. Worth, TX Fry's.

K7s5a forum

This had a lot of fixes that I wasn't aware when I was putting together a comp with this board six months ago. Hopefully I can avoid those problems again when I'm building my new cheapo rig.
