B17 Flying Fortress spotted over South Bay area

Apparently today is some sort of air show at Moffet field, and I live in mountain view, and today there was a B17 flying not too high from the ground, and man is it a beautiful plane. Anyone else spot that one?

We have an air show at out local little airport.

I've seen both a B-17 and the B-29 take off from there right over our heads. It's an awesome sight. The next time they are there I'm going to take the tour even if I have to take the day off of work. I want to see inside.

Can you imagine what some of the thousand plane raids in WWII looked like?

we just had a b1 bomber and some f16 escorts at our airport the other day, i got the honor of being able to see em close up as i had to pick up some pilots from the same hangar (i work at a hotel)

Airshow today? hmm i live really close to moffet and usualy when theres an airforce i can see all the planes, and hear them ehm very loud....

Cyberian, I saw that exact plane in the pic you have again today. These planes from Moffet fly right over my workplace pretty low I could see and read the markings.
I also saw a B24 Liberator today too. Man, I should take my camera to work 😀

I used to work right next to the county airpark, and on the way in to work one morning I saw what looked like a pretty big (for a county airpark) plane off in the distance. As I started getting a little closer to the landing path, I craned my head to see around a grove of trees that was blocking my view, and it was a B-17 (the very one you saw today) coming in to land. Went right over my head, I was in awe. The Liberator was cool too, but the B-17 was way prettier.

They were used extensively during WWII, and were actually designed and built a few years earlier. (1934, '35, '36)??

While in the USN in 1989...I was aboard the USS Enterprise. We were in the Indian Ocean and were called the general quarters because a Russian Bear Bomber came into our air space.
This was the largest prop plane I have ever seen!!!!

How do the Russian counterrotating props work? I always wanted to know. They have several helicopters and planes that use these counterrotating props, where one rotates clockwise and the other one counterclockwise.
I think that's pretty cool.

I've built so many models of the B-17 it's retarded. One of my favorites for sure. I think I have built at least one model of each of the WW2 airplanes including German and Japanese models. Luv 'em.

The B-29 (later B-50) totally outclassed the stubby B-17. Seems like the B-17 isn't near as rare, either. Only one working B-29 left. 🙁

Yea, I think these planes look really good. I really like the mustangs too.

I think the F-16 falcon looks the best though. 🙂

Yeah, I spotted one when I was walking my dog out here in Walnut Creek. It make a big U-turn and came flying right above me. I want one 🙂.

It was on Memorial day as I remember.
