Barnes & Noble is selling their Nook Color reader (normally $249) for $199 through eBay's Daily Deal:

Use coupon code CBARNESDD at checkout to take off the $50.

No links to eBay, period. We are not going to peruse through these eBay links to see if there are or are not individual auctions.

You do know that ebay links aren't allowed in Hot Deals. I've asked the mods several times to clarify whether this applies to eBay Daily Deals as well, but have been summarily ignored each time.

I'm quite sure as long as it isn't to an individual seller's auction, it is allowed.

This is being sold directly by Barnes & Noble, they're just using eBay's storefront for the sale.

I agree. The rule is ambiguously specific though - "No links to auction sites..."

Yeah, you can easily root it using Autonooter, and that'll at least give you access to the Android market and a few other things. You can from there install Froyo if you want, and there are some experimental builds of Gingerbread floating around for it I believe as well, though I don't think they work well at this point.

From all I've read this makes one heck of an all around Android tablet with a few simple mods. People are overclocking it to 1.3 GHz as well. Very tempting indeed!!!

Yeah, that was weeks ago. Now there's experimental Honeycomb as well as a largely functional CM7 (Gingerbread). Plus you can dual-boot any two setups directly from the device or stick in a bootable microSD for yet another configuration.

It's a great hacking tablet.

As I said from the GG&P thread:

I want one. I didn't use my wifi Nook much though... seems like that would have been a waste. Bah, right when I already started spending all my money on a PC build! I think I'll skip this deal, but I'm not happy about it.

I like the e-ink display, but not having a backlight is less convenient than I expected... I also don't mind LCD displays as much for reading if you can:
1.) adjust the brightness
2.) change colors so I can read light text on a dark background (IMO better this way on LCDs)

And I believe you can do both of those on the stock Nook OS. Hmmm... soooo tempting.

In for one...

I bought one for my Wife for X-mas, it's nice.. I like being able to read with no lights on...

now She can have "Hers" back... 🙂

This really needs to sell out or something before I get home ><

Temptation + money is a terrible terrible thing

So for those who have it (and rooted it with Froyo, Gingerbreak, Honeycomb, etc....which is probably 99.9% of you guys 🙂 ), how is this working out for you as a "daily driver" tablet? $199 is a cheap price for a tablet, should tide me over for awhile so I don't spend $800 on the Xoom etc.

Yeah, wish I could find more info. Most of the rooted reviews/videos don't really show it in the best of light. A lot of broken features. If I can get:

Browser
Mail
Youtube

I'd be happy. Might have to bite and worry about it later...

EDIT: Going by the "Sold" counter they have sold 700+ since I first opened this deal! WOW!

Browser, Mail and Youtube are available in the stock firmware. Along with Pandora, chess, sudoku and crossword puzzles. 🙂 No rooting/hacking necessary!
