So lately I've noticed that my hair has thinned out a fair amount in the front.

When I gel it up or use pomade I can see a little into my scalp.

My mom is trying to get me to go see a hair transplant expert so they can pull it from my ass or something, and put it up top.

I've just accepted I'm going bald (it isn't that bad at this point, but I'm not too optimistic that it will stop where it has). I'm planning to shave my head & grow a goatee. Yeah yeah that look is overly abused-- but there is no way I'm going to look like George Costanza

Yet, even though I've accepted it I still feel as though I'm so much less... *cry*

PS What are the odds it may stop after thinning out a little? I'm 22 and I've noticed that it has taken 3-4 years to get to this point: thin at the front on top, only about 1 inch into the hairline. I can cover it up fine as it is and it doesn't look that bad, but I have a fear that it will continue to go further and further back.

go to a dermatologist. if you have male pattern baldness, consider going on propecia. also consider rogaine. don't use too many harsh chemicals/dyes, and make sure you never cut your hair in front too short, otherwise it will look like you have a big forehead. if you shave your head, don't shave it to the skin. you'll look like a cancer patient. keep it buzzed. don't do the goatee thing, you really don't need to do that. if you're white and pale, get a tan, and if you aren't already, get a good body. Chicks will still dig it.

I have receded myself, but have a lot of hair. i don't know if i'll be bald or not, but i don't have the peach fuzz on my forehead like i did when i was 15. But I have a big forehead , not as big as Chandler from friends, but like Joey from friends. but i do know that girls really dont mind buzzed cuts. Even though i'm really vain about my hair, and i think i have pretty cool hair, i really don't think it matters to girls. i've overheard HOT girls checking out good looking guys with buzzed cuts. if you're good looking, you're good looking period whether you have a buzzed cut or long hair. if you're ugly, it'll suck either way. better bulk up.

Have you used it?

I kind of brushed off those as hoaxes and not really viable things.

I mean, I won't fight it if I can't. But if it works...then sure, I'll try it.

other things to look for:

bad water (seriously). If you have hard water, that can really make your hair look like shiet, and I imagine it isn't good for it either.

take some vitamin b-6 pills occasionally. try to eat healthier. take some biotin capsules also. Green Tea is supposed to be good as well. look into your shampoos and conditioners. Use salon stuff. I use Matrix, Paul Mitchell. Go buy Nizoral from Wal Mart. use that every 3rd day. this is a MUST.

good luck.

Propecia. Rogaine is messy, and not as successful in clinical trials. You won't necessarily grow any back, but you can stop any more from falling out. Make the appointment tomorrow. Also, talk your doctor in prescribing Proscar and then just cut the tablet into 1/4's - it's about $1 a day if you do it that way.

oh yeah, thats true. don't do rogaine yet, that is for regrowth. just do propecia. and he's right about the proscar. insurance will even cover it as it is used to treat bph, (enlarged prostate - common in older men)

YMMV on that. My insurance requires doctor approval before automatically approving it for anyone under 40. My doctor probably would do it, but I didn't want to put him on the spot.

I've got the same thing going. Well, not thining so much as receeding in the front. I'm only 24 and there's not a single bald person in my family so it's not hereditary. God just hates me. Oh well.

propecia/proscar can cause limp dick, so just take that into consideration. I guess it primarly works for balding on the crown of your head, not so much for receding hairline as well.

Just shave your head and be done with it. That's what I did and it worked out great.

I can relate ... but mine is going, going .... not quite yet gone. I have had my head shaved since I was about 16 (going on 30 now), and a few years back when I decided to try to grow it out a bit, I was not pleasantly surprised when only about 30% of it came back.

I've come to terms with it now ... genes are inevitable, and I'm not interested in transplants, medications etc. Too much money & vanity involved.

when i was about 20, my hair started to thin out. i was panicking/depressed cause i thought i was going bald. but im 25 now and i still have all my hair (no bald spot or receding hairline). it seems like after a year or two of "thinning" it just stopped.

so, if your lucky, the same could happen for you.

Arginine tablets help prevent that.
