B 777 Crash lands @ Heathrow

I'd say thumbs up to the captain and crew - having to glide in under no power, and there are no deaths? Kudos to him.

"I didn't speak to the pilot, but I saw him, and he looked very pale, but there was no communication in the cabin."

I might have been a bit more than just 'pale' after that! Props to the crew!

and where does it say the plane lost power? All the articles states is that the wheels collapsed and the plane skid for a decent bit before coming to rest at the end of the runway.

CNN says the same. No mention of a loss of power. The people on the plane would have mentioned the lights and air going off, I think.

"An airport worker told the BBC's Angus Crawford that the plane's pilot said he had lost all power and electronics, and had to glide the aircraft in.
"

copied directly out of the story linked.....

geeze, reading comprehension FTL

Damn. Can anyone tell me if losing power = losing hydraulics? That would make things very difficult.

There are 3 backup hydraulic systems, plus they have a turbine that comes out of the plane to offer minimal electrical power for critical systems.

Where do you get that the plane glided in? The article only states that the plane came up short.

He stopped short? That's my move! I'm gonna kill him!

Most amusing is that Richard Branson was on the flight with the Prime Minister.:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Except that they weren't... :frown:

The incident happened as Prime Minister Gordon Brown was due to leave Heathrow for China and India. Mr Brown's flight was delayed because of the incident, but his jet was not involved directly.

Mr Brown was being accompanied by 25 leading businessmen in the official visit including Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson

Yes, and that means they were on the flight how ? Brown was scheduled on an completely different flight to China, not from. Branson would only fly his own airline anyway.

As mentioned below, there are multiple redundant systems and I believe cabin lights and such run off their own generator.
