So I accidently ran into a sample track of hers at Barnes and Nobles tonight and I have to say...

WOW!!!

This is some cool ass music!

Azam Ali's MySpace

If you don't feel like listening, the music is a cool down tempo techno/ambience layered with middle eastern instruments and the vocal's are performed by a very talented girl from Iran.

I have her Portals of Grace album. Good stuff, but I have to be in the right mood. It doesn't play well with the rest of my music when I have my player set to Shuffle.

Sometimes you just have to have separate playlists. :p

The MySpace player has like 1 or 2 good songs. The album I ran across first at B&N's was Portals of Grace and it went down perfect with my Starbucks caramel macchiatto.

ShotgunSteven is right, you have to be in the right mood. That would be relaxed for me.

I actually bought it at Barnes & Noble after reading about it in a magazine while I was there, and checking it out at a listening station.

Tonight I found a CD that crashes and reboots their listening stations when you scan the UPC code on the back.

We have all her albums (solo, Niyaz, and Vas albums). We saw Niyaz in concert last year. It was really good. The concert started out with what sounds like the instrument tuning up. What was really happening was that the mixer/keyboard guy was sampling. He would then feed the samples back into the songs as they played so the music would keep building. Then Azam Ali would start singing. Her voice is exactly what you hear on the albums, amazing. The mixing thing took awhile to get used to as you watched four acoustic musicians play and this wall of sound came out.

iTunes has singles of her singing with Buckethead and a few other artists.

The new Niyaz album, Nine Heavens, is out. It is a two CD set with one disc electronica and the second an acoustic version of the same material. Very good.

"Spring Arrives" FTW. What a glorious voice. Anyone know what language it is? Arabian or Persian?

Just made impulse purchase of Portals of Grace. Liked what I heard from the music snippets and it was iTunes Plus which I try to support whenever possible.

Good stuff so far.
