AZ Sheriff threatens secret gay illegal lover with deportation

It's the fact that not only is a leader against illegal immigration having an affair with an illegal immigrant, a state that's bigoted against gays has a gay sheriff/leader.
so, an anti-gay state elected a gay sheriff? that seems comendable.

would this story be any different if it were about a male anti-immigration sheriff dating a female illegal immigrant?

Why, if they didn't know he's gay?

Yes, the difference would be that an anti-gay state didn't have a gay official.

Former Congressman Kolbe, R-Arizona came out while still in office and went on to win re-election. Giffords won the seat after Kolbe retired.

From a legal standpoint no. It is funny because he is a hardliner and supporter of the John McCain/Romney and the Republican Party who are frequently at odds with gay rights. He isn't just some Sheriff he was co-chair of the Romney campaign in Arizona.

he wasn't in the closet.

says he's gay right on his website.

Ariz sheriff says he's gay after misconduct claims

http://www.yorkdispatch.com/nation/ci_19995593

A sheriff seeking the GOP nomination for an Arizona congressional seat was forced to confirm he is gay Saturday and resigned from presidential hopeful Mitt Romney's Arizona committee amid allegations of misconduct made by a man with whom he previously had a relationship.

This(Outed Rs) seems to happen on such a regular basis, I'm begining to think that there really is a Homosexual Agenda.:sneaky:

Ah, that changes things.

In that case, I don't think it's really relevant. I though this story outed him.

Edit: OK, now we have another post above saying he was NOT known to be gay and he was outed by this stoty. So retraction retracted.

He wasn't "outed". His affair was made public because of his threats to his former lover, who happens to be a man. I know that won't stop Republicans from shedding crocodile tears and making bizarre false equivalency accusations. Let me guess, next you guys will say he's a "victim" of anti-gay bullying?

There will still be gay people, even if you try and deport them all.

Who cares about the gay issue? There's an illegal, and someone in a top position in law enforcement who knew about the illegal. Get rid of them both, th3 gay has nothing to do with it.

Sadly Sheriff Paul is likely an American citizen , meaning that we in the USA can't dump our fellow on the Mexican government.

Sure we can. Like this: You're a traitor, bye. Here's Mexico, they love illegals, you can find a new home there with your illegal gay friend who's now over there too.

See how easy that was?

Except deportation doesn't work like that.

First off, how does this make Babeau a "traitor"? (Even if he were to be convicted of treason, American citizens are not punishable by deportation).

Secondly, Mexico does not "love Illegals". They have immigration laws, just like here.

Third, his alleged lover is not "illegal"; he has a valid visa, according to the article.

Finally, when are you going to learn the proper use of the apostrophe? Perhaps English in not your native language, but it helps to know it if you live in this country.

Don't care, that's how we should start making it work where people are knowingly assisting illegals.

How doesn't it? You knowingly, in a position of power and responsibility, let an illegal invader stay without reporting him/her? You're a traitor to your nation. What's the problem here, it's as clear cut as possible?

I know, ironically, they actually kick people out on their souther border. My point was, they love letting their folks into our country illegally, we can give these two back. Mexico doesn't like it? F'em.

If his squeeze is here legally then I have no problems with it. I really thought someone in the thread had said he was here illegally though.

I like leaving them like that, just to piss off whining grammar nazi's. Good right?

🙂

I know a guy who lives in AZ... from what he's told me, the sheriff wasn't exactly "out and proud," but wasn't in the closet either.

it was kinda like an open secret homosexuality, like Anderson Cooper, Zachary Quinto, or Matt Bomer (though he's recently started talking about his partner/kids in interviews)

Well that was a dumb move. He should have killed him, he'd almost certainly get away with it. People always talk.

That seems like after the fact rationalization & cover for Arizona voters who really "should have known" that the guy was gay...

Rock Hudson & Liberace weren't exactly in the closet, either, but many of their fans were shocked when they came out...

Beheading in the desert! Blame it on the islamo-fascist terrarists! coming across with the Mexicans!

It'd probably be a big seller in Arizona...

does he have to wear it on his sleeve? it's not as if his sexuality is relevant to his job.

most people would be hard-pressed to refer to me as closeted. my family knows I'm gay, my friends have met my boyfriend, the whole nine yards.

but outside of a couple coworkers who I'm legit friends with outside of work, most of my coworkers have no clue that I'm gay. it's just not relevant to my job and I have no interest in socializing while I'm on the clock.

Correct.

Furthermore his credentials are quite impressive for the office of County Sheriff: "He became a Chandler police officer and in November 2008 defeated a Democratic incumbent to become sheriff. Along the way, he served in the Army National Guard as both an enlisted man and an officer, retiring from the Arizona Guard as a major after serving stints in Iraq and along the U.S.-Mexico border."--From The Arizona Daily Star.

He is also running for congress, but can probably kiss that and his current job goodbye.

That would be fitting if the allegations of abuse of power turned out to be true.

Unfortunately, many of the voters in Pinal County would probably can him based on his sexual orientation alone; that's just the kind of electorate he faces, sadly.

Come election time it's up to Arizonans to decide whether they fear Mexicans or the gay more. Conflating the two right now is dishonest, and the only issue that anyone in favor of equal treatment of homosexuals should have is if they can find where this guy has gone on anti-gay moral crusades in the past.

The problem is not that being gay makes him soft on illegal immigration, but that it almost by default disqualifies him as a "true conservative". It also won't be November, as he still needs to win the Republican nomination for the seat, something that likely won't happen now. It is possible to be anti-illegal immigration and gay at the same time, but it is very hard to be gay and win a Republican primary.

"It obviously has implications for a congressional race. There's just no question about it," said Bruce Merrill, an Arizona State University political science professor emeritus and a longtime pollster. "I don't see how any reasonable person cannot think that this is going to hurt him, particularly with the constituency that he has built, which is a very evangelical, right-wing, family oriented conservative constituency."

What actually impresses me, though, is that the quotes in that article from the Romney and McCain campaigns (which he has helped) were quite supportive of him. My guess is that they knew he is gay beforehand, and made the decision that they wanted his support, regardless of any consequences regarding being outed. to them.

Shame these "True Conservatives" for some reason just can't keep their closet as tightly shut as they say they want the borders.
