AXP Pencil mod comes back to haunt me

I did that multiplier mod using a pencil that was mentioned in my thread and a few others a week ago. I screwed things up and managed to get it back up to 11x and settled for that (with increased FSB). Well, I just rebooted my computer and it booted at 5x multi. 694Mhz. 🙁 What could have happened?

Did you do the pencil mod on an Athlon XP? If so, then that is your problem. Pencil trick only works on Thunderbirds.

Not the pencil mod for the L1's. Connecting with pencil works on the L3, L4, and L10 bridges. It worked for me to a certain degree... then crapped up.

It crapped out on me for a while. I took the CPU out, cleaned the traces and redo the pencil mod. That should help you. 🙂

I really regret doing this thing. lol... it was perfectly good before... but I, being the person that I am, had to try this just because I could.

clicknext, don't worry, that is what OC is all about. I know it sucks when you start messing something up, you'll feel like that was a perfectly good processor and it was fast enough, but why the hell did I want to OC it and now its ruined.

Luckily I think if you clean it, everything should be fine.

lol... I swear, I'm going to really kill this thing, it's never going to get well again. I've accepted that fact and plan to get a 1700 tbred after christmas. I cleaned it out, penciled it again, and it went to 9x multi. No idea why, but I'm hoping to use 200 FSB so it'll be up to 1.8ghz. Just need to find out if there's a 6/1 divider on my mobo at that speed and if there are any hazards besides the PCI/AGP clk being too high.

clean the lines off with metholated spirits and a cotton bud (I think you guys call them a "q-tip")
that's how I always clean mine - the liquid evaporates very quickly.

i don't know if you have another name for metholated spirits, but it makes the lines disapear 100% - then re-do just the l3 like some articles have mentioned recently (overclockers.com.au)
