AXP-M 2500... Faulty Temperature Diodes?

Well I am a newbie here on the forums, and am already requesting help! .

I recently got my first rig built. I know, it isn't ALL that much, but I only had a 500 dollar budget. (I am 16)

My problem is my temp sensor in my CPU is whack. It randomly reads temps from 35C to 98C at any given time. I can touch the heatsink and it is hardly even warm. The thing is, my mobo shuts itself off as soon as the temp reaches 100C, as a safety measure I presume. Since the temp gauge is whack, my computer randomly turns itself off when the CPU tells it is has hit 100C. SO frustrating!!! I can in no way afford another CPU, so this really sucks. I think it is the CPU because chaintech says that my MOBO uses the diode in the CPU to take the temps. I am j/w what you guys think? This really sucks...

Some things that aren't mentionedion the CPU-Z report is that I have Patriot Signature Line memory, a Thermaltake Volcano 12 with AC5, and a Thermaltake 480W PurePower PSU with 24A on the 12V rail. Also, an XFX 6600GT AGP 128MB gfx card. I hope I have provided enough details.

Switch out that Chaintech mobo for another (e.g. Abit NF7-S Rev 2.0) and it should read correctly. Otherwise, see what you can do in the BIOS to make it not shut down at 100C.

OK, I will see if I can find the money to do so...

I wonder if there is a way to bypass that feature somehow??? It isn't available in the BIOS, but could you edit the BIOS and then flash it?

Thanks,

Maybe your Chaintech doesn't recognize your mobile processor? Have you updated to the latest BIOS?

My board says it's an unkwown processor but CPU-Z also recognizes it fine.

I don't think many of us are capable of rewriting a BIOS yet. Try getting the newest BIOS and then see what happens.
