awwwww fvckin a...I think a mouse/rat just ran across the room...

I'm in the basement of my family's house for the summer...nice place, furnished basement...I got the "bachelor's pad" thing going down here with my computer and HT, nice and private...

My family's been concerned about mice/rats for some time now, but no way of confirming...but sure as fvck, I heard this sound, looked down to my right and this little black thing scurried across the way and went into the closet underneath the stairs...I don't know how it got into this room, unless it's just been sitting behind a box...but jesus, it scared the sh*t out of me, and since there's nothing we can do about it at 3:30AM, I'm not going to wake my dad up...and I'm just going to go and try to go to sleep. We gotta kill em tho...if that little bastard tries biting through my cables/lines and fvcks with my $3K worth of equipment, I'm going to be pissed.

sorry, had to tell someone...and I apologize for the poor grammar, it's late, I'm freaked out...

oy. Anybody else had mice/rats before? Does the exterminator have to spray something, or what's the method of getting rid of them? I'll check the thread when I wake up.

I have mice at work EvilYoda, and to tell you the truth, we can catch some of them, but they bread to fast to eliminate them 🙁

Get yourself a few of these.

I had the same problem last week in the garage, and picked up a few of these at Home Depot (I think they were a few bucks each).

The old fashioned pine & brass ones work much better than the plastic ones, so I'd stick with those. Also - avoid poisons, because the last thing you want is for the rat to curl up under a box somewhere and die - you'll be searching for the source of that smell for weeks... 🙂

Your bait should be rigid and chewy, but not brittle (over-microwaved tortillas work great) about the size of a quarter. Put a little peanut butter on top, they love the smell.

Place your baits perpendicular to the walls (bait facing the wall) because rats/mice do not cross the middle of an empty room. Make sure you cover any holes under doors, etc. so they can't get out of the room you saw them in - they will get pretty hungry after a day or two. 🙂

Good luck!

My cat has never been outside a day in her life, but she catches mice...must be instinct. Too bad she only plays with them after she catches em.

Get one of those electronic gizmos that give off an ultrasonic sound that will drive them away.

I've heard decent things about these. You can get them almost anywhere.

I used several of those sticky pads that mice get stuck on. I've found 4-5 so far with this method. I've also tried the rat/mice bait/poison. Those little b*tches are smart because they won't eat it at that moment, they will take it and put it somewhere, their secret stash, and then keep looking for food. For example, we put some poison underneath our fish tank, and then the next day, when my sister went to put on her shoe, she was FREAKED out to find all the rat poison in her shoe, which was in the closet. These little guys are smart.

but Syringer...you said you didn't have any of these....you said you never had any of these....i'm sending in my inspectors....and if that fails I will come round and occupy your house 😀

hmph...alright, thanks for the helpful (and some not-so-helpful 🙂) comments. We were sure if we should go with poison or just traps...and I'll look into that ultrasonic thing. good thing we don't have a dog anymore, since I imagine that they might hear it too?

ugh, now I hate being in the basement...I seriously would like to go buy a shotgun, but then I'd have to explain the holes to my mom. 🙂
