Third refill - 25.30mpg

Hell - I average above 30mpg in 100% city traffic - I guess doing a constant 80mph really takes a toll on the small engine. That - and the whole un-aerodynamic thing, but still! :p I guess I shoudl probably figure in load too - I had three passengers, and luggage for the trip - A/C on too.

I have pinpointed the reason for the VERY crappy mileage on the third refill - think it could be this?

Lol - that's the fastest the car could go - pedal was touching the floor, and it wasn't going any faster.

after 60mph fuel mileage will drop, and after 70 it drops faster.

Go 70 max for best time to fuel efficiancy

It's not possible. Go to the Scion website - configure your car (or don't configure it) - just print out an invoice.

Show up at your dealer - they're obligated to sell the car to you at that price.

80 mph, you dumbass. Try 20 the whole time, take an extra hour or two and get 30 mpg+

for cars with small engines, they get their optimal fuel efficiency at 55mph or so. My g35 gets 22-25mpg highway @ 80mph.

That's why what you buy should be based on your driving habits to a degree :)

The poor gas mileage on the neon (22mpg) is typical -- I rented a 2003 neon 2 yrs. ago and got 19mpg with it @ 80 mph!

Wow... pushing a box at those speeds definitely means bad gas mileage. The air just doesn't like a box passing through.

Speaking of G35's, I followed this 2k5 G35x for about 200 miles - gorgeous car, I really like the new sedan's restyled LED tailights :) The Aero package really makes the sedan look great too :)

04 Civic - even at 80mph, I can pull low 40s on long trips. :p

My car is governed to 108mph. Anything above that it cuts off the fuel.
The tires the car originally came with are why they governed it. Seeing as I have H speed tires now I could get the chip that raises the top speed to 124mph but seeing as anything over 74mph attracts those cops with the lidar guns hiding behind bridges I just don't need the extra speed.

As for fuel economy I think 60mph probably would get me the most mpg but at 74 I still get around 33mpg. When my wife drives at 65-70 she gets more like 35-36mpg.

Mine goes the fastest when the little needle is touching the red solid part. ;)

i thought it shared the engine with the mr2 and celica gt which made 138 and 125 hp/tq respectively. im rather suprised such an unaerodynamic design go to such high speeds.

actually, you're wrong. They can sell them for 10K above MSRP as long as that price is clearly posted and paid by ALL customers.

no, the xa/xb share powertrains with the toyota echo. the tC has the engine of a camry.

Wow, that's pretty quick for your xB. I haven't gone over 80 yet with my tC. But yeah, they say that once you hit over 3000rpm, that's when your mpg will start to decline. Added the fact that the xB is not very wind resistant, cutting through air doesn't help much.

You must have accelerated a lot too!

LOL...no sympathy here. As RGN can attest to...our GTOs aren't exactly the most fuel-efficient cars on the road. ;)

Weight in the car shouldn't affect highway mileage, except by compressing the tires. Try putting about 5psi extra.

I had my 93 sentra doing 110 and though it was not accelerating very quickly it still had a few more mph I could have gotten. It was a five speed.

yeah they do the Celica GT uses the 1zz-ge which is shared with the mr2(138hp/125tq at 6500rpm redline). the GT-s(higher level model which sports 130some tq and 180hp at 9krpm redline uses the 2zz-fe engine which is why so many MR-2s swap to the 2zz-fe. same mounts, just higher compression since it's using a different head and piston and VVT-i.

First, isn't wind resistance exponential?

Second, the car's gearing is probably very short giving you EXCELLENT city gas mileage but at the cost of your highway gas mileage.
