Right now im using Comcast service for Internets and TV and the rates are ridiculous

Currently im under a PROMOTION and even under that status im paying 62$/TV for:

-Digital TV package (no premium like HBO/CMax/etc)
-1 HD-DVR box total
-HD service (15 channels???)

when promotion ends next month it jumps to 82$ for TV service alone. 72$/month annualized

DirectTV has this:
-200+ channels
-35+ HD channels
-1 HD-DVR box

all for ~47.5/month annualized

Called last night to disconnect, comcast offered an extension on promotion on a downgrade... so same price but even fewer channels. Lady said retention department could get better offers but they were closed ATM and to call back next day.

I just called right now and it went like this:
"hello comcast how can i help you"
-"id like to disconnect my tv service"
"may i ask the reason why"
-"i see that direct tv is offering a better package"
"ok to disconnect service just bring your box and remote back to your local center. is there anything else i can do for you"
-"wtf!"

glad to rid of them anyway!

Comcast blows and they know it but when my dad called up to disconnect after our promotion with a bunch of free movie channels ended, they just extended it for another year.

So we get free movie channels and DVR, although the movie channels show the same crappy movies over and over again and we have never ever used the DVR.

Their HD pricing is total bullshit though, Cablevision is 100% free HD, just call them for an HD Box. Direct TV apparently looks good too. Comcast wants 10 bucks extra per month
for the box alone, and 8 dollars per month to get the HD channels. Give me a break.

We have comcast.
We have the Digital and HD package. We have Showtime, HBO, one HD DVR and 6 MB Internet.
We pay about $120 on the promotion. When that expires, we will be paying about $180.
I am thinking of canceling Show and HBO and just buy the series we watch on DVD. Buying a Roku and streaming netflix. I am also thinking of building an HTPC to stream regular TV.

I'm on the comcast 6 month promo rate for digital cable right now. It's $35 a month. When promo ends, it's gonna jump to $50+. I think I'm gonna switch back to the basic cable when that happens. HDTV be damned, I'm not paying $50 for cable TV.

This is a great idea. As it stands now, there aren't many shows you can't find on Hulu (at least ones that are worth watching. Basic cable + Hulu + Roku = epic winnar

Call again, tell them you want to set a disconnection date 2 weeks from today. Within 2 weeks, you should get a call from your local office with some real good deals.

You started the conversation all wrong.
You said you wanted to quit, not that you wanted a better deal.
Better luck next time.

< Loves Comcast and Comcast loves us.... free premium channel upgrade for a year for paying bill on time. Also currently paying the most recent promo rate for the next 6 mos.

internet will be about $60 at least without it bundled.

I have comcast with two boxes (one HD DVR), all the channels, and 6MB service...its $180 a month. I had dish...but it was a lot more money without the bundle.

Comcasts channel pricing encourages all or nothing.

Call and ask for customer retention. Also, do you still have to sign a 2 year contract for Direct with HD service?

I found the best success in calling the rep when "canceling" during the weekday around 8-9AM. The deal I got was Internet and Cable (regular digital cable) for $66/month total for 1 year after asking to cancel my Internet only.

Had Comcast until two weeks ago.

Signed up for FIOS.

I pay $99.99 for 20Mb/5Mb internet and their ExtremeHD TV package with a multi-room HD-DVR (Comcast doesn't have this yet; lets me record a program on the DVR downstairs in my living room and watch it upstairs in the bedroom).

Right on man. This is one company I would be delighted to wake up one morning and see the news of their bankruptcy. My service was infinitely better before they came and swallowed up the local company, hiked the prices, slashed the bandwidth of the internet service and instituted a cap on usage. I'm sure a few hardcore (read...insane) supporters will creep into this thread though, just like they always do.
