Awkward Silence

So you are sitting in your cubicle and someone you know comes along and says hi, talks about a couple things, you respond, and subject is over. They don't leave though, they hang around and kinda stare at you or your surroundings..

What to do?..

1. Get up and punch them
2. Give them a photo of yourself
3. Say "bye."
4. Wink at them

...Hate those. I either think of something else to say until THEY decide to leave or, I just look at them awkwardly and say "Ok...." or "So...".

Me, I start walking away before the conversation's done. So the burden of guilt is always of the cubicle's owner.

You could say something along the lines of "well...I've gotta get [anything] finished up" and that's usually a clear enough hint

Completely and totally ignore them and get back to work. They'll get the hint.

I usually go with "Alright then, carry on", and turn around and continue working.

My common phrase is "Sounds good" while turning my attention away from them. Seems to work well.
