Awesome Mail Server-inexpensive to boot!

For those of you that run networks of any size, a good mail server that can be purchased for less than a good used car is hard to find. Personally, I spent a few years groaning over Eudora World Mail while searching for a replacement.
I found ArGoSoft. www.argosoft.com Argosoft is an awesome mail server that runs on any platform. I am running it on Server 2000 and it even registered itself. No crashes or issues at all.
The cost is $88 for the pro version and in addition to Pop3, you also get web based access (Http) to your e-mail, can block relaying, can authenticate, ban/allow specific ip's, mailing list, everything a much more expensive program will do.
I am not affiliated with them in any way, am simply sharing a good bit of software with others. Every administrator I know, who has small scale toys, is amazed by this program for the price.

I second the vote. I have been using ArgoMail for over a year and it has yet to cause me one crash or problem of any kind. And everything is easy to set up and use, very easy to use interface, if a little cheesy looking sometimes

E-SMITH Server It has builtin encrypted web mail, and does virtual domains, mailing lists etc.. all with an easy to use web interface.

Thats what I was thinking. So, in reality it runs on *ONE* platform. Not 2. Not 3. But 1. Wintel.

qmail still seems to be the best solution (in my opinion). It runs on plenty of platforms and architectures (software and hardware if you dont know ).

Esmith might be free, but it does not offer any additional features compared to ArgoSoft. Esmith does, however, have warnings about installation, wants to completely reformat your hard drive and reinstall Linux and does not appear to be simple.
When you have a stable server, running multiple website and emails accounts, with virtual domains, you don't have time or patience to play with Linux. Integrating Argosoft into the system was easy, quick and painless. That is the whole point to my comments on it being awesome.
If I had the time to spend, I might consider playing with Linux, Apache Web Server and Esmith. I prefer to use computers to make my life simpler and I have not found Linux to be the all-out answer that was promised. Hopefully, they will beat MS eventually, until then, Argosoft is a very easy Windows based server to install as part of a web server. It does not hog any resources and, unlike some mail servers, does not require a rebuilt to install or uninstall.

But that still doesnt explain your claim that it works on all platforms. So far it only works on one. And one that is not necessarily a good server solution at that. Please clarify

My intial post I did err in saying any platform. I should have said any Windows platform (95/98/Me/2K/XP/Server/Nt, etc.)
Now had you completely read the second post, I did clarify Windows based.

I am always amazed at how nitpicky forums get. It is a great windows based server, I made the post to be helpful to others who may be looking for a good windows based server as not everyone cares to play with Linux. I wish someone had pointed Argosoft out to me a year ago, it would have saved me some aggravation with WorldMail.
I appreciate the constructive post on the Linux mail server and not only bookmarked the site, but sent it to a friend of mine that does run Linux and has his own little website and wants a good mail server. Forums are for sharing ideas to everyone's betterment. Are there any other good, inexpensive mail servers out there??

I was just complaining because I went to the site looking for useable files and all I found was Windows files. I dont feel like "playing" with Windows so that was kinda useless to me. Thats all.

Other than that, Im glad there is a decent alternative to exchange for people.

EDIT: Postfix is another mail server for UNIX-like systems (not just linux). I dont know any Windows software really because I dont pay much attention to desktop software

That's because Windows doesn't make a good mail server, even Exchange which is reguarded as one of the best (if you need all the features) is a beast.

The biggest problem I found with Exchange and most mail servers was blocking out spammers from using you as a relay. They all claim to have authentication techniques and security features, but many times properly enabling them made learning Linux sound like a kids game. Others simply did not seem to work right.
I say this because this group of lame-geeks scanned my computer, told me there was an open relay and stuck me on a black-list, without warning. Being as the websites and the emails are used for business practises, I let them know this black-listing without warning was a problem for me. Blocking commerce is not something I am fond of-the Congressman who offices in the building next to mine also found this non-profit consumer advocacy groups tactis interesting. I was and am still able to provide activity logs showing no unauthorized relaying took place. ORBZ no longer returns my emails.
I played with a friends copy of Exchange and found it be more of a behemoth than Windows. I probably tried 15 different mail server programs on a test box looking for a good one that was inexpensive (yes, so I can buy a legal copy) and would not destroy my nicely working web-server box. I did not want to have a second computer just for mail. I started this search long before the ORBZ group issue.
There were a few Linux options I glanced at and even a Mac program that seemed to kick butt. The most amusing was a windows program that, for unlimited emails cost something like $99,000.00! Chump change....
Argosoft did block unauthorized relaying, does authenticate properly and does have always-allowed IP's so I can send mail through/from the websites that reside on the server. Something Exchange did not allow, or I could not figure out.
