Awesome! I'm in the private beta for uSirius Starplayr (Sirius/XM iPhone App)

Been using it a few hours this morning, and short of a few bugs where the stream stops on its own, its FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC

I've been waiting for a real Sirius iPhone streaming app for awhile as the Orb/TVersity/Parallels combo was a bit clunky to say the least.

How did I know this was going to be an aphex post

Does it stream over EDGE or do you need 3G?

It works over both afaik, but I think you need 3G if you subscribe to the high quality stream (128kbps)

How did you get to beta test it? Can I download and try it?

I've been hanging around Nicemac for a little while now and sent the owner a PM when I heard about the private beta.

Its linked to my UDID and full at 200 users in the beta, so unfortunately I can't share it.

Chris Pirillo is in the beta as well; http://www.youtube.com/user/lockergnome

Hopefully a 32gb iPhone will be released at Macworld tomorrow, so I'll have an excuse to upgrade from my "paltry" 8gb model 😉

Ya know, with Orb/Simplifymedia and now uSirius, I have very little need for anything more than 16gb 🙂

AFAIK, XM and Sirius use 64kbps AAC for high bandwidth and 32kbps for low bandwidth with their online services. I haven't used XMRO lately but it should still be the same.

It's nice to hear they're finally getting an iPhone App for it though. As much as I like my satellite radio, it's not exactly portable beyond being in my car. I wonder how much they're charge for the app. I seriously doubt it will be free.

Sirius has a high quality (128kbps) stream for $2.99/mo additional - http://www.sirius.com/siriusinternetradio

Any update on this? I heard one of the creators on the Stern show last week that said they were going to send the app to apple for approval this weekend. I know its only Monday but was hoping maybe it was done.

It was submitted for approval on the 31st, just waiting on Apple now.

Figures. Apparently they're going to start charging extra too for the online version as if it were an additional Sub. I saw it on the American XM site but XM Canada hasn't mentioned it.
