I think everyone is pretty much disgusted by our 2-party system in the USA. I propose the following new system:

1. The US agrees (e.g. via referendum) to identfy approximately 5 key political issues (e.g. abortion, war, privacy, etc.).
2. For each political issue, there are 3 stances: left, moderate, and right
3. There are thus 3^5 = 243 different stances.

Therefore, if we had 243 different political parties or candidates, each with one out of the 243 different combinations as stated above, there is surely going to be some candidate we can fully support.

the presidential debates are too exclusionary imo

right now all we have is the conservative point of view and then the anti-conservative one.

How would you suggest narrowing it down to 5 key issues? I mean other than being media zombies and letting abortion and gay rights go to the top of the list when they really aren't important issues at all...

That doesn't seem to make much sense.

Although I am also sick of the two party system as I am beginning to form the opinion that it acts as a filter, in essence, one cannot get ahead UNLESS they demonstrate party loyalty, even over what's best for the country... so it basically filters out independence... you're not loyal? You don't get party support and they support the guy against you making it very hard for you to get anywhere...

Notice what happened to the war vet Hacket recently... too hard to control? Sorry, don't want you.

You need proportional representation and a presidential election similar to France's.
