Are you eligible to get unemployment checks now? 2nd job and unemployment pay, now that would be cool
not if he resigned. lot of times a company will "coerce" you to sign a paper saying you resigned on your own accord.
what they're really doing is taking any rights/benefits you may have if you got canned.

That's exactly right. I should be getting fired from this crappy job either tomorrow or monday. I played my cards right and basically they're going to release me from the company. I'm not getting fired for performance or attendance issues just my general unhappiness at the company. HR had found my resume on Monster after I posted it again after a hellish week and thats when the fun began. Basically told the VP of finance in a meeting this morning that I was not committed to the company and was currently seeking other opportunities. He said that they have a company policy of not keeping people that don't have plans to stay with the company so I should be getting fired either tomorrow or monday. As long as I don't sign that paper saying I left under my own free will, I can collect unemployment for a little bit while I finalize the plans for the business that me and my business partner are starting. I can't believe that I'm actually looking forward to getting fired.

Why did the 3 managers say they were firing you? Just curious.
Attendance issues. Problem was, I wasn't motivated to do the job anymore. They had a strict policy that stated you have to be there at a designated start time. I racked up a bunch of points last summer when we were moving and my wife had a baby. Then in the last few weeks, I started slacking and getting in 5 or so minutes late every other day (getting to work on time became less of a personal priority).

Even better, they actually let me resign instead of getting fired!!

doesnt getting fired look bad on your resume??? (i know that they let you resign.. but from the way ppl are saying that they are glad that they were fired....)
it cant have a postive effect on your job searching.....

The way this is spun, is usually they let you 'resign' and agree to a mutual and amicable split should a future employer call. Saying "I am not really sure why he left, but we were sorry to see him go" is usually the lawsuit friendly response.
They give you two weeks, sometimes a month and you think it's a good deal. You sign and are happy to have usually a double paycheck coming. Then you realize you gave up more in unemployement. However should you have another job lined up anyway you gain big in this situation.
The funny thing I always think of it the people getting canned and mention during their exit interviews/escort out of the building laughing at the boss or cracking jokes about their screw ups and saying they will have new and better job tomorrow. The kicker to me is (as someone that's fired people) if I knew of a job that would be better I would take it to begin with and not waste my time in a job I hated especially if the 'pay is double'.

Because it is hard to leave a 'sure thing'. Especially once you've been at a given job for several years. Even if it sucks.
