the ladies who work at my client's cafeteria speak about 3 words of english. this wouldn't matter except when you ask a question about the food, they give you a blank stare and have no clue what the answer is.

Me: "Is this a corn muffin"
Her: ".........." (and goes to hand me one)
Me: "I just want to know if it's a corn muffin or some other type"
He: (nods, and hands me muffin)

Guess what? definitely NOT a corn muffin :|

I say if your job description says that you will have to interact with people who speak English, you better speak the damn language.

One of my big pet peeves...I can't STAND it when I have to practically mime something to somebody who can't fricken speak English. I live in America, not Mexico, Spain, China, whatever.

I even hate when I have to "press 1 to continue in english".

Me: I'd like a #2 combo
Her: <mumble in something that sounds suspiciously like spanish>
Me: I'm sorry?
Her: <mumble>...Super Size?
Me: No, thank you
Her: What...<mumble>?
Me: (guessing) Dr Pepper
Her: <mumble> ...venty cinco
Me: Sigh

I'm so glad a lot of places have the display showing what you order and how much the total is now.

I got a letter from DirectTV the other day (I am a subscriber to their service) ENTIRELY IN SPANISH! I have never spoken more than a word or two of very very poor spanish in my life, yet they send me correspondence in a foreign language! Got a kick out of that one. I might cancel my account with them, but I'm hooked on NFL SUnday Ticket. LOL!

Congress should. There are towns in Florida, Arizona and Texas where they made Spanish the "official" language.

The US is almost like Canada where everything is has English/French on it but we are English/Spanish. Can?t even go into a Wendy?s with out seeing signs hanging from the ceiling that are in both English and Spanish.

is that such a bad thing tho?

although i do think people should go out and learn the friggin language already. the other day coming home on the subway, my train was going express, and all these people were dumbfounded and hopped off the train. beacuse they cound't understand when the conductor told them no trains would be stopping at that station....pretty sad really...

the problem is we never declared an official national language. we should, and it should be english.

though at the way things are going, in california it's gonna be spanish.

I have no problem when private businesses do it, hey they're trying to expand their customer base. But when government and governmental entities cater to them, then I have a problem. Tax money should not be used to print everything bi-tri or quad-linguilly. It's a waste of money.

if you want your corn muffin in english, then it will cost you twice as much. triple if they unionize
non-english speaking low wagers are hired so that they don't unionize.

next time ask "is this an english muffin?"
