avsforum down for upgrade?

I never understood websites that go down for days for maintenance. Why not do it in a test environment then upload it when it's done. That's always what I've done for my sites. When I ran my game server I even manged to do a server move with no more than 10 minutes of downtime. Basically the time it took to transfer the database between the two data centres. The rest I already did ahead of time while the old server continued to run.

you can also have farm servers where you upgrade one server, bring the other one offline so all traffic hits the new one once everything is upgraded, seamless upgrade (other than minor slowdown).

I feel like AVS is run on sticks and stones, lol.

The avs updates don't normally take that long cpl hours. They had a bullifan this time saying it would be down pretty much all day.

Also this forum is down much more often for no reason at all

Check whatever link you use for AVS. I had to change mine. I guess I had mine pointed to the forums but their forums link has changed.

What is the new link ? ? It is still pointing to the old one when you try to get there from the Avast web site.

What exactly do sites do when they're down for "maintenance"? AT goes down for maintenance every night, what are they doing?

I believe this AVS maintenance is similar to when AT converted from FT to VBulletin a while back.

AT's maintenance every Saturday night is most likely database cleanup, sort of defragmenting the database.

Yeah - certainly not as well run as a renowned tech site like Anandtech which has no issues

VB doesn't mean Tapatalk compatible on it's own. There's a plugin that goes with it.

I understand that. They still have to activate it.

My point was that I looked several times in the past and AVS was not in Tapatalk (I've never been a regular or anything), and then this morning after I read this thread and checked if they're back up, I've seen some threads in the HTPC subforums discussing how Tapatalk is now working. So I searched again on Tapatalk and there it is.

I then assumed that this 'maintenance' was about switching to VB and that's why Tapatalk now works.
