Avira Scan locking up at 35.5%

Yesterday I downloaded the free Avira anti vir, installed and updated, and ran a scan, which locked up at 35.5% (to clarify, it was still responsive, just not scanning any new files)

I thought maybe it was scanning something really big, so I left it overnight, but it was still stuck. So I ran it again (twice) and it keeps stopping. Any ideas what could install this on a fresh install of Avira?

Try ask at their forum http://forum.avira.com/wbb/ind...page=Board&boardID=135 or search it for "stop" "freeze". Some question you should have answer for - and state if you post there:

Can you see which files it stops at?
Do same scan in safe mode work?
Other security related software running, including Windows Defender?
Windows is updated?

I just did a quicksearch and those things popped up. Think you should also tell them you have done a "chkdsk c: /f" scanning. May be a disk cleanup even. Exclude weird problems. Actually one guy fixed his freezes by doing disc cleanup, whatever that means - but Windows own should be enough.

I dont know personal version too well but pretty sure it has an "Expert" tickbox in settings? If you have not been in there yet go ahead and tick, then you can exclude files/folders and some more things. Might be needed.

Yeah, when it opener a file to scan it, the virus in the file actuated and stopped the scan.
...hard to fix. Lotsa reading involved. What you have to do is scan the file without it opening.
Sometimes safe mode works. Sometimes it's a trojan.
