Aviate android launcher

google launcher is crappy without GEL xposed mod.

how's aviate compared to nova?

Who said anything about the Google Launcher? Google Now works with any launcher and does an excellent job of "predicting."

Anyone here in on the beta to this?

you said "I'm going to assume it's not as good as Google Now?" how would a launcher be comparable to google now? i assumed you meant google launcher instead.

I tried this a few months ago and it's a terrible battery drain. I tried to stick with it because it seems pretty cool, but then in a week the novelty wears off and I still have battery drains, so I uninstalled it. It's possible that it's better now but I have very little interest now in trying again.

I have similar experience with other, 'exciting', new launchers as well (like Themer and I think there's one other).

And does it really still need invitation? If you can't find any invites, the .apk is floating around out there.

For those who are discussing Google/Google Now/GEL...

let's actually get specific so everyone is on the same page, okay?

Are we talking about the "Google Now Launcher" as it is called on the phone (often referred to as GEL), that, from the main home screen, you can swipe left and get to the Google Now interface immediately? The one that was originally exclusive (and officially, is currently still... IIRC) to the Nexus 5?

If not, please clarify.

I had this on my tablet, and while it *looks* cool, it's way too limiting. It's like they try to make an android phone/tablet as locked and simple as an iPhone, which kinda totally takes away from the idea of having android.

I use the google launcher and find it to be more than adequate. I just looked up this GEL xposed mod and I don't see what it brings to the table that would ever be necessary. I'd like to know how it turns a crappy launcher into a good one.

What in gods name are you talking about? Why would you ask if a launcher is as good as Google Now when they're completely separate?

Because Aviate tries to be like Google Now, only as a launcher instead. It tries to predict what you'll need and serve up those things for you, which is very similar to what Google Now does. So my original question was asking how good is it at predicting things, because Google Now does a very good job of it and doesn't tie you to a specific launcher.

Hrm. I have read a bit of negative opinion on Aviate. Perhaps I should break down and pay a few bucks for Nova or Apex. After a few months with Touchwiz on my Note 3, I can't take it any longer...

Ah, I see

Based on the sinple webpage it didn't look like Aviate acted like Google Now, but I haven't tried it or looked at videos or anything. So it changes what's on your homescreen based on what time of day you typically use ceratin apps?

Aviate is a straight up launcher, so the only things it predicts are the apps you need based on your location/time-of-day and put them up on your main home screen for easy access. That's about it. So during the day at your workplace the shortcuts showing up are the ones (it recorded) you frequently used during the day, the ones showing up at home in the evenings are the ones (it recorded) you frequently used in the evening, etc.

It is not similar to Google Now at all. I have never heard of Google Now changing whatever shortcuts you have on your home screen.

Aviate is widely available now and I'm giving it a one week go on my Moto X. I've used the stock Launcher, Nova Prime, GEL, and now this. I'll post about my experience after a few days, but I can say this now it's jarring coming from GEL...

have both paid versions of those, very similar but i go with Nova. although i haven't used Apex in almost a year so may try it again see what new features it has if any.

i like Gravity Box with the Xposed framework.

I'm having a hard time with using my phone as I was before with Aviate. I had for the lack of a better word or phrase certain workflows that are completely busted now. I don't know if I'll stick it out.

I have Nova premium, but keep Apex around for requesting icon themes. Nova truncates the information that themers need.
