hey,

i've installed Koepi's XviD-1.1.0-30122005 (stable)
i've done searched the web and repaired exploer i've tryed to click on avi files in a folder without previews but nothing works the second i highlight an AVI file explorer "generates errors and must close", this is really annoying 'cause i can't move these files or do anything with them. but i can still play them if i browse to them in a media player (e.g. DivX, Winamp, Mediasource ect.). i'm confused because it worked fine until earlier today.

thanks for your time

i'd like to know is this a serious problem i've been trying for days to find a solution and i can't find one. i heard ffdshow would fix it i installed in no change. it all worked fine even xvid but the day after i install xvid i got Vundo and a few other problems on the pc like the paracite winet32.dll

does anyone know that hotfix for win 2k to fix the avi explorer crashing problem

i;ve heard of people reloading their machines from scratch and this problem still persists. also my window updates don't work since i got windows defender, i have auto notify on but i'm never informed when there is new updates any ideas.

> where did you download xvid from?
from here http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml , or what?

> uninstall xvid, reboot, scan computer with lavasoft adaware (update its definitions first) if results mention nothing significant then good.
now, try crashing explorer again without xvid installed, lets see what happens.

thanks for the help

i did download from that site.

I unistalled rebooted, updated and scaned found only tracking cookies. explorer is still crashing.

some people suggest uninstalling all codecs on the machine and reinstalling them. where would I begin.

it only crashes with Avi, MP3, WAV MPEG, i have all the previews disabled i have the file view format on details no fixes seem to be working. it's an annoying problem.

thanks again

I had the exact same problem my issue was the xvid codec as well, even when videos weren't thumbnailed and you just clicked on the file name explorer would crash. To remove codecs you need to go in the control panel, go into audio devices and click on the hardware tab, scroll down to video codecs and click the properties button. You can remove codecs there. Hope that helps your issue.
