AVG corrupted!

This is the 2nd time in the last couple of months, that when I turn on my machine, I get the warning that AVG has been corrupted. The only way I know how to fix it is to run System Restore (XP) to the last restore point I have.

I update Windows, AVG itself, and AdAware and Spybot religiously. I also do a virus scan, and run the spyware programs every two or three days.

Oh yeah, I run a firewall at all times, also.

Any idea what could be causing this corruption? Even though I am on a slow dialup connection right now, I don't like being without an antivirus for even a little while, not these days. :frown:

I would uninstall AVG and reboot then do a fresh reinstall of AVG and see if that fixes it.

I've had AVG running on my wife's system every since her NAV subscription expired and it's never corrupted. I update it regularly and run full system scans on a weekly basis. Works great.

I'd follow Mem's advice.

Never had a problem in last two years with AVG.

I operate on the same logic as the above poster.

Thanks for the replies. Not so interested in ways to restore it's functionality (I did that by using System Restore, like I said, and then ran the latest updates), but rather in why it would happen in the first place. Bad sectors on the HDD maybe?

That's my thought too. There are a couple of viruses that can sneak in under your av protection and then kill it.

You probably need to run Housecall, a free online scanner.

Cindy Sue, when is the last time you've gotten a virus?

Last time that I know of was a couple of years ago, on another machine, an old laptop with no av program.

I'm on dialup now, but I will maybe run Housecall tonite.
