Sygate and Kerio are both really good. ZoneAlarm is popular but it has some weird incompatibilities for a good amount of people.

Ended up ditching AVG and tried Sygate and didn't like it much.

Going for ZA Suite 5.0

I just downloaded the Kerio Firewall today and I love it a lot. Has a lot of cool features vs Zonealarm and the simplicity and ease of use makes it a huge plus too. It also fixed my problem with bittorrent. Apparently zonealarm did something that made my computer freeze after using BT.

lavagirl, since you can afford x800's and other nice toys, spend $40.00 and by a cable/dsl router instead of relying on software as a firewall.

The best free firewall that I like is Sygate Personal firewall , for a payed firewall try Kerio Personal firewall 4 which is what I`m using,btw I`m also behind a router but you can`t be too careful IMHO .

Are you behind a router already? If you are, it already has a built in firewall. And if not, i think WinXP is fine personally.
