How do people find this, reliable? It seems to consistently find a fair few threats each time it scans.. How do people find it compares to a purpose built scanner?

Actually Avira is one of the better rated AV apps, even better detection ratings then KAV and NOD32.

Avira is top rated, and to say you wouldn't rely on it as a sole scanner, well, you are not familair with this application then.

The latest versions of NOD and KAV weren't so hot when they came out....

Jahee, Wilders Security Forum is a lot more hard core for software and security then AnandTech is.

MalwareBytes seems to be the newest free, great manual scanner. HJT advisers also have you use it.

It seems the subject is Antispyware scanner not a AV.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware or SuperAntiSpyware...

They're the only ones I found that could get rid of those Antivirus XP 2008/2009 infections. BTW, the people who wrote that crap should be executed. :)
