This is a first post, so please be nice.

In today's paper, Fry's in Sacramento has the AverMedia Ultratv PCI 350 card advertised for $89.99 before a $30 mail in rebate. This makes the final price $60 + tax (after rebate). Everywhere I looked online has the card priced at about $80-$100 with no rebate. The specifics for this card are here: http://www.aver.com/products/tvtuner_UltraTV_PCI_350.shtm (sorry, don't know how to link).

I've searched and searched and could not find a review for this card except 3 people at Amazon who seem to like it. This seems like a good deal as I am looking for a tv card. Could someone please share their experiences about this card and/or opinions.

This deal is probably good at other Fry's, but I cannot verify that.

Thanks

forgot to mention that the hauppauge wintv-go was on sale at compusa recently for $30. (for you cheapies)

Otherwise, I've seen the Hauppauge 250 (has hardware-based encoder and PVR functions) go as low as $99.

The Hauppauge 350 has hardware-based decoder but is not worth the extra $$$ IMHO.

Yeah the decoder probably wouldn't be worth it for me either. I'm thinking of getting the PVR-250 though because with it I can combine it with my Hauppauge MediaMVP and have a PC based PVR without having a PC in my entertainment area :)

Are you using the BeyondTV setup or something else?

If it's a hardware-based decoder, that probby means it also has a hardware-based encoder. A hardware-based encoder is a requirement for Windows XP Media Center Edition. Also, a hardware-based encoder means any decent computer could encode a show while another show is being watched. Hardware-based decoder is worth it (if encoder).

Babba Booey!
