this thread was posted way back when...but now the price has gone down another 50.
p.s. i actually bought this and the averatec av6240EH1...the 3360 is very very fast...never expected it to be that fast...specially for this price. as for the 6240 thats going for 1199.99 but CC is discontinuing it for some odd reason...but i got the last one at a discounted price...yet to open that one and use it...anywho...that stuff is for a diff thread...enjoy...

Intel Pentium M Processor 725, 1.6GHz (2MB L2 Cache) with Centrino Technology
512MB PC2700 RAM (unlike the rumors w/ the 3200 series...this actually CAN be upgraded to a gig...but one dimm only)
80GB Hard Drive
12.1-inch XGA TFT Display
4X DVD+/-RW Drive
Windows XP Home
Wireless 802.11b & 802.11g + Ethernet + Fax
Intel Extreme Graphics 2
Memory Stick and SD/MMC card reader
Type 2 PCMCIA Card Slot
3 USB 2.0(no firewire 🙁...maybe their next model)
4.5lbs w/ battery
~4 Hr Battery Life(3hr 45min batt life confirmed by yours truely)

Averatec 3360-EH1

if its similar to the 3200 series which it very much looks like....then it has integrated graphics which is a shame because if it had a 9700 or hell even a 5200 or SOMETHING...it would be one helluva a machine for one helluva price.

the previous series (3200) has athlon xp-m w/ exactly 2:50 hr battery life(i have 4 of these in my family right now) when out of the box and fully charged w/ all the battery and fan calibrations done. this has about 4 hours of battery. i personally have yet to use the dvd burning feature on this lappy

im a huge averatec fan(in case you couldn't tell by the long ass post, except for the c3500 tablet pc of theirs, so i was jumping for joy when i saw this @ CC. not a shabby deal IMHO. try and find another ultraportable 4.5 lbs lappy w/ all those features for 949...anyways....hope you all enjoy the deal and flame away should you feel the need 🙂

try and configure a 700m to have 512mb, and a dvd burner w/ xp pro and 60gb hd
the only thing better w/ the dell i see is the 12" WXGA screen which is awesome
but i just configured it w/ pent-m 1.6, 512mb 1 dimm, dvd buner, 60gb hd and it came out to 1600, not to mention the card reader (though that doesn't really matter in this comparison) so unless you have a 500-700 dollar off coupon i dont see how it compares price-wise...just my $0.02 worth.

With regard to a single 1 gig ram chip versus 512.

I have a 3200 with a 1 gig ram chip in it and it runs fine. For some reason Avertec never tested with the 1 gigger and therefore never stated that the machine could run wiht one but it certainly does work, cause I've been using one for more than 6 months with no problem.

12.1 is def good for an ultraportable...but the dell 700m has a MUCH MUCH better 12.1 (WXGA)...thats the one thing i wish this sucker had...if it did then the hell w/ all my debts and w/ the fact that i already have a compy...i would run ot the store and buy it

Can anyone verify that the battery life is indeed 4 hours? I have the 3250HS-20 from Sam's Club. Battery life has been going down as I use it more. Even thought they advertise it at 3 hours, it only lasted about 2.5 hours when I first got it... now it's down to about 2 after a month of usage. Plan on returning it if it gets any lower (good thing Sam's club has the 6 month return policy!) My only grip about the averatec is the battery life (and maybe the clunky keyboard, but that's minimal). Too bad not many stores offer the 3360. Only offered at comp usa, and it's back up to $1200 now. The dell 700m has been dropping in price... it's at $999 now!.

have you done the battery and fan calibrations? i have done so on all of the 3200 and 3250s i have in my house and for the past few months i have been getting the full 2:50 mins. the only thing i do is, if i use the battery...i let the battery drain completely and then recharge...i know you only need to do that with NiCd batteries but i guess its just a habit....so i dont know if that would in any way effect the battery charge....but im assuming the battery is the same and the only thing diff is the chipset and the proc so if i had to guess...the battery life is probably very close to 4 because you know that the p-m are great when it comes to battery life. but thats just my two cents...i now have the funs and thus will be buying this very soon....if you want...PM me as a reminder and i will let you know in a few weeks how its been doing...hope this helps!

why is this laptop so heavy with such a small form factor?

my dell D600 weighs 4.8lbs and it has a 14" screen! :Q

other than that, it's a great price!

bump...had posted this way back in feb or so...but the deal came back on this laptop...& its 50 dollars cheaper now...have edited the threat accordingly. enjoy.
