Can you maintain a stance of dominance?

I won a captain pose off two years in a row at a local pub, does that count?

 be sure to wear your pirate outfit when interviewing for the position.

I'm 5'10", 200lbs, and I've worked security most of my life in empowered (means hands-on in security talk) positions. One position in particular required a LOT of combat, averaging over 200 assaults/restraints per year. I quickly learned that what my various martial arts instructors had always taught was completely true...size is totally meaningless unless they are of equal or better skill than you (in which case it's still only a minor benefit).

If you can handle yourself, you'll be fine. Size is irrelevant.

I should clarify a bit, I'm not too worried about handling myself, it just doesn't seem like my chances of getting hired are that high, with no specific experience in this field and not being huge. I applied in person at two places and they just seemed to pick the biggest looking guys regardless of anything else.

That's something you'll have to deal with, as it's prevalent...especially in bouncing where they have no real understanding of what's involved. Eventually you should get something, and once you do you'll be fine from then on as long as you make a good showing. Either word will travel by ear, or at least you'll have some experience on the resume.

You want to think about going to clubs and bars, meeting the bouncers, bartenders, even the owners if you can. Let em know you're looking, and leave em a card. Those jobs are way more about knowing someone than a certain type of resume. The key to those meetings is to seep confidence and control out of your pores.

Just wear your hair kind of messed up, talk to yourself (yelling at yourself is also a good idea), constantly mumble, and give everyone the stink eye and tell them "I'll be watching you buddy boy". They'll think you're crazy and nobody will mess with you.

Yeah, it was a fun 3-4 months. I'm looking into getting back into it at a closer bar that pays better. You don't have to be huge, but it seems to help a lot. If I saw tension building between patrons I'd show up in the middle asking what was going on, and suddenly everyone was friends.

You'll figure out real quick if its right for you or not. It's not particularly fun to be at a bar sober and looking for jerks.

Most decent bars have average sized bouncers just to check IDs and to kick people out.
Even if you are a big guy, there is always going to be a drunk guy wants to pick a fight with you.

I have seen many more average sized door men than large sized.

I work in IT and have been Bouncing for years now. I will gladly answer your questions.

I need a pic to determine if you are a good size. Its more about stature and presence than actual height. Fighting experience is ok. 99% of the time you want to stop fights not particpate in them unless you like lawsuits.

At least where I work we have had a couple shorter guys that are under 200 lbs.. If you are working in a rough club in a rough part of town that's a different story.

Its not genius to spot a fake. Depends where you work on how lenient they want you to be. Just be wary of that before you go rejecting 90% of there regulars. No offense they'd rather put a hot girl with no experience behind the bar than you. lol.

Also the pay isn't much so don't expect it to be a great source of income. Its a great source of women though!
