I don't know what the average salary here is, but it seems like 60K is minimum wage around here :D I pay 900 bucks for a flimsy studio.
Oh well.

Read my sig. :D
You have to realize that bay area is the most expensive place in CA in terms of cost of goods, gas, utilities. We get hosed on just about everything. It's like the rest of the country expects us to support them. Forget about buying a house here if you don't make at least 80K.

This site has a calculator that will adjust your current salary at your current location to what you need to make at a new location in order to maintain the same lifestyle. I would need to make $189,584 living in San Francisco in order to live the same lifestyle I do here in Pittsburgh.

$100K+ is not much, if you live in places like Taipei you need at least 400k+ for a small apartment, if you want a decent condo, it would cost 700K+, now if you can own a house, you need at least 2 million, one of my friend's parent bought a house for 6 million, n4o kidding.

Haha. I could make half my salary if I move to Austin and have better lifestyle. I might just do that when it comes time to buy a house and start a family.

Yeah, San Jose median house price is only $450,000. And way down here in Santa Cruz it's all the way down at $420,000!
(was reading an acticle on this in the paper this morning)

The whol bay is expensive, some places more than others. Sure, you can probably get a place cheaper in Livermore or Fairfield, but, who wants to live there?

That's half the value of my 12 year old car. I don't see how that can be more than a run down shack anywhere in the US, and on no land, at that.

I said the Bay Area not San Francisco. I can get a nice 3 bedroom 2 bath house for about $120,000.

Inflated real estate and rent expenses and cost of living and ever escalating economic bar negate the high wages of the few who actually earn them. The rest of us wage earners are getting killed out here. The Calif.economy is scaled towards the handfull of people actually making the big bucks. Greed de lux. :disgust:
