Average price of a house where you live?

Was flipping through the channels and came across this house buying show from the US. This young couple who makes way more than I do are turning down houses on huge lots in Virginia because they cost $200,000. They wanted something about $20,000 less. You can't even get a condo for that here. :\

So I decided to hop online to see how much houses are worth around these parts. I live in a medium town 40km west of Toronto, Ontario. My findings...

-Typical two story detached 4 bed room, 3 bath, 2 car garage on a small suburban lot: $400,000 to $500,000.

-Freehold Townhouse/Condo: $250,000 to $300,000

-Apartment, one bedroom: $700 - $800/mo

Just wondering what people in your area are paying. :hmm:

In central NY:

A basic townhouse is ~$110k.
Comfortable 3 bed, 2 bath houses are ~$150-175k.
A 4 bed, 3 bath house would be ~$200-250k.

A 2000sq foot house on a quarter acre goes for about $200K around here.

A 3500sq foot house on 3 acres will run you 400-500K

Too damn much
This

1996 1450 sfqt, in what is now the "historic district" **bull shit** $72K.

At the bubble, thanks to realtors and transplants, +450 sqft, $280K😱😱

Today, 1900sqft, $220K at the drop of a hat.

Still ridicules.

Edit: Nate must live around here.

From Wikipedia:

Ho-Ho-Kus is primarily an upper middle-class and upper-class suburb of New York City, ranking 15th in the state of New Jersey in terms of per-capita income. According to the Forbes 2010 survey of the most expensive ZIP codes in America, Ho-Ho-Kus ranks 268th nationally, with a median home price of $901,841

100k for about 2000sqft with a small lot, lake property is 500k+ for 50ft of lake and a 2400sqft home. People on the larger lake are easily 1m for a smaller lot/home.

In Peoria, AZ (suburb of Phoenix)

Median price change 2009-2010: -3.9%
Median price in 2010: $167,250
Median price in 2009: $174,011

I just made an offer on a 2250sf 4BR 2 1/2 bath on 1/4 acre lot, built in 2003, for $170k.

op those people must be in the boonies of VA, because you can't get a 1br condo for $200k in northern VA.

Richmond I think. In the country but close to the city. I know big cities are expensive, but real estate in Canada is ridiculously expensive for unknown reasons.

far cheaper in my area. my house is 3 bdrm, remodeled, 2 story, privacy fenced with garage..etc i paid $74k. Most typical townhouses around here average this price. Many of the old victorian 3 story houses, huge are far cheaper but in rough condition.

I'd guess around 50-60k in my area. Mine was 42 for a 3+ bedroom, 18 acres, barn, large attached garage, separate garage/shed.

Charlotte NC.
Closer to the city it's about $240k + for a typical 4 bedroom house.
Around the edge, where I live, it drops to the $200k range.
If you head out into the country it can get even cheaper.

Down South of the US - Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana - 200K can give you a nice house of 2K sq ft, 3-4 beds with 2 baths, with back yard and fence, in a nice neighborhood with good school.
