Canadian here. The average price at the government run liquor stores I've been to for your average quality bottle (750ml bottle, a handle in the US) of liquor (vodka, whisky, rum etc..) seem to be about $21-25 Canadian. Which at the current conversion rate is just about the some in US dollars. What is the price where you live? Does it sound about comparable?

What the hell is a government run liquor store?

Why is the goverment in a business? They trying to make an extra couple of bucks selling booze?

I was blown away last time I went to Vancouver BC... the prices were outrageous. The _cheapest_ beer they had in the entire store was carona (can), for $10.00 a sixer (not tall).

You live in the US? Look up ABC states. Similar to that only stricter, no alcoholic beverages of any type sold outside government licensed stores.

Hmm could be. I'm more talking about the price of a bottle of hard liquor. Not surprised that it would be pricey though. The average price for a pack of cigs here is around 10 bucks in a lot of places too.

Depends obviously, I buy most of my liquor from a B&M BevMo store, which generally has the same prices as its website http://www.bevmo.com/

Grocery stores are $5-$10 more, so anywhere from $15-$25 bucks for said medium quality liquor, depending on wtf exactly you want.

I live in a state run by the morality cops, so all liquor is in state run stores and way overpriced.

Smirnoff and Captain Morgan are about 25-29 for a big bottle.

The good stuff, I normally purchase out of state.

bull crap, I speak with Indians, Canadians and Mexicans almost every day and have had no problems. This was a gas station out in the sticks and I caught the occasional word that let me know that they were speaking some version of English. I just had the guy draw a picture.

It was even worse than a thick Cockney accent

not that there is anything wrong with that...

Ohio has "state pricing", so prices are generally the same everywhere. We used to only be able to buy "hard liquor" in "state liquor stores" too, but that has since changed ... for example, many large grocery chains, like Kroger, have a separate section where they sell hard liquor.

Typical prices, from recent buying "experience" ...

Tanqueray gin - $26 (1L)
Crown Royal - $26.50 (750 ml)
Jose Cuervo Especial - $25.50 (750ml)

So, yeah, very comparable to your Canadian prices.

Surprisingly, booze is pretty inexpensive here in Kahleeforneeya, and best of all, you can stock up when you get your OTHER grocieries...
