Average pay for people in their mid 20s?

My boss, at my recent evaluation, asked me if my raise and current pay rate was "fair." I stupidly said yes without really knowing what the norm is... I know I should wonder about the norm for the industry that I'm in but I think I might be the only person in New York City with my title (it's a really weird job) - so what's the norm for 20-somethings? I know it differs widely from industry and location but, what's a number I should be happy with, as a 24 year old? Vague question, I know.

Well what are you making and what is your educational background?

I have my bachelors, I'd prefer not to say my exact pay - just trying to judge based on what people consider the norm.

What do you do?

I work at a marketing company - I find products for them to market (go to trade shows, meet with vendors, design ad campaigns, etc.). Though I'm more curious how much people in my age group get paid, not in my industry.

Well, fine then, I'd prefer not to say what my exact pay is, either.

if everyone is as forthcoming as you are with information, you should learn a lot from this thread.

You're right - I made $45,000 and just got a raise to $50,000.

$50k at 24 years old with a bachelors is pretty good... even for NY. There's no way anyone can be ashamed of that.

And was this an annual raise or a promotion ? $5k is a lot for an annual raise ... be very happy with it.

Married and two year degree with 3 years experience...
Pay at a local ISP = $22,000/year (SUCKS)
Fixing to change jobs = $28,000/year with company vehicle, insurance, and free equipment + service at cost for company...(no markup)

Good improvement, less hours, and no more working for a dickhead CLEC...

somebody slap him for questioning a 10% raise.

somebody slap him again for questioning getting 50k for a marketing job.

That actually sounds like a pretty cool job. I'm 26, work out on Long Island and make about $63k.

I am 37 and I make 32k. One year of college only. I would be pleased with 50k. Cost of living is probably alot lower for me in Alabama though.

so you want others to tell you how much they are making, but you won't tell us jack??

I'm 24, and make about 31-32k. The cost of living here is quite a bit less then NY though, so this isn't going to give you a very good idea of what "most 24 yo's make". The mortgage on my house probably cost's less then the rent on your studio apartment.

You're looking at it all wrong... the question should not be how much other people your age are making, it should be how much do y ou feel you deserve, and why?

I won't give my exact pay, but at the moment, it's somewhere in the $55K - $65K range. It will stay at that level until June 1 when we undergo some pay restructuring. Sadly, take home pay will go down but benefits will go up. I will have around 39 days off per year and that's low compared to my boss who gets around 50 days off per year. Oh, and I will be paid to travel on business to Germany twice this summer for a total of about four weeks. And once I'm there, all expenses are paid, including mass quantitíes of beer!

Edit: Forgot to mention I am 25 and live in Atlanta. I have a BS from Georgia Tech.

I started 6 months ago at $45k (probation) and they said they'd evaluate my performance 6 months into the job. I did well on my evals so they bumped my pay up, with the same title though.

I'm kinda lost because no one in NYC talks about their pay. My last job paid quite a bit more but it was without health insurance. I guess I should be happy but, when I look at my weekly check I scratch my head and wonder if that's really it.

I don't think age has much to do with what you make or what you should be making. But if you are in 50's I guess that's average.
