Right now I am at 1.45v, 260x10 for 2.6ghz at 50c full load CASE COVER CLOSED (unlike before). I tried 2.65, but I think my PSU is limiting me (true power2 380). It didn;t lock, but wouldn;t even finish loading windows, Right now the 2.6 is ony proven for 1/2 hour , both cores at 100% F@H. If it goes down, I will correct my stats.

so u oc like that whats the multi at 4x or 5x ?

Both at 4x HTT I think. The 3800 may be at 3x, don;t remember.

Mark don't you have like 4 other systems?

Pull a PSU from there for a day and see what you can achieve..

What are you PSU rails looking like?

Rails are OK, but I don;t trust the software, and I can;t get a VOM on the cpu and 3.3 v rails. I have 8 other systems, but the 2 with bigger PSU,s (true power 430s) are a real pain due to all the drives, and wire management. I just want to get a season 500 someday anyway for one of the bedroom PC's.

lol .. you could place one of you other PC?s right next to this one, and use the other 20/24 pin mobo power connector off of the other PSU, this will then give you a dedicated PSU for just the motherboard (mainly RAM and CPU).. but this is probably highly impractical. :p

Very likely your PSU. Even though the PSU should theorethically be able to take 192w on the second 12v rail (according to Antecs website, I cant check mine without turning off my PC and that's not gonna happen) an overclocked 2.6GHz X2 probably gets awfully close to 130ish when overvolted. Kind of wish it came with a single-rail 32A line instead, heh.

Fixed links here.

The CPU itself.

The overclock.
There's a pic of a woman stripping or something in the background. Most of it is covered by windows but you can see her bare legs... so stay away from this kiddies (haha).

Nice overclock, by the way. How's the heat?

By the way Gronich: you might wanna edit out the serial number and the square "UPC".

No Duvie I'm not spamming I've doubled up on the HTTP bit

X2 3800+ @ 2.9Ghz

X2 3800+ in case

I've backed off from 2.9Ghz - I was rock solid yesterday so I've run some benches at 2.8Ghz:

SPECS:

AMD64 X2 3800+@2.8Ghz 1.475v (idle 30oC, Loaded 52oC)
Thermalright XP90 with 90mm 74CFM 30dBa fan
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum BIOS 1.9
Antec Truepower 480W
(2x512Mb) Crucial Ballistix PC4000 @ 233Mhz 2.5,2,2,6

Everest:

Memory read 5938, write 2782, latency 49.7

Sandra:

Arithmetic ALU 25977, FPU 11405
Multimedia Int 53523, Float 57653
Mem. B/W Int 6559, 6514

Runs happily at 280x10, 311x9 and 343x8 (Can't get anymore HTT 350 would have been nice!)

Never tried Prime or SuperPI so I will have a go.

bjc112 what memory timings are you running @ 311x9?

so...you were "rock solid" at 2.9 but u backed off at 2.8? why?

and your definition of "rock solid" is everest and sandra? lmao

and why does cpuz say 1.504v?

on my dfi, when i have it in bios at 1.595v (1.45x1.1), it displays as only 1.55v in windows...but i duno how msi's work

Sorry, bad english. It was rock solid yesterday but wasn't as stable this morning. As stability is my prime concern dropped back to 2.8Ghz - The sweet spot for this CPU is somewhere between 2.8 - 2.9Ghz.

I've run Prime95 for 3 hours (Hitting an average temp of 54oC) with no errors, how long do you usually run this for?

With regards to the voltages the Neo2 Platinum is a bit of a pain I'm running 1.325 + 10% over voltage.

DUVIE how are you getting to the same voltage?

Gronich, this is good to hear.

I know my Neo2 is a whore to deal with sometimes (but i still love her), so i was a bit worried about X2s & her, but it looks like she's ready for one from me, as soon as i can find some cash :)

Oh, & Gronich, your CPU may read as a Manchester core in CPU-Z (it should), but from the stepping & the fact that it's an E6, i can see it's actually a Toledo with half the cache disabled.

My personal theory is that they are cache-failed 4400+, which is why i'm hoping to find one when go buy mine :)

Is your voltage set to 1.475 in the BIOS?

I run timings of 2-2-2-5 @ 200mhz or like 3/3/3/7 @ 1T for DDR 520

I have my 3800+ coming in this morning. Ill update you when I get it..

If I get 2.6 I will be thrilled!

:D

I've just dropped the voltage down now - running @ 1.375v still at 2.8Ghz - Amazing chip!

bjc112 I assume if your running DDR 520 thats 260Mhz I will try 2.5/3/3/6 @ 311x9 and see what sort of benches I get with that.

n7 can you point me in the direction of how to decode the chip markings?

OMFG YOU SUCK!!!

2.8GHz @ 1.375 is simply insane. CPU-Z pic please!!

My X2 3800+ has been running at 1.36v (reported by cpu-z) for several weeks @ 2.5GHz (memory@cpu/12) with an XP-90 and mid-speed Panaflo. Initially it Primed for a couple of days before I was satisfied it was OK and it spends most of its time in Linux and runs like a champ. Now the ambient temps have cooled a little (22C), I'm getting 28C idle, 46C load.

I haven't been able to get the thing to post with the HTT above 250 (with ratio 3). I've tried increasing the voltage by small and large amounts, but 251 just don't cut it. This is with the K8N Neo2 plat, Antec Sonata (380w, silent). My initial guess was that the PSU just can't keep up, but with only 1 hard drive, a DVD-ROM and my 6800nu, I'm sceptical - it behaves itself perfectly when any of these are stressed. I'm very happy with this overclock, don't get me wrong, but I'm curious as to what else I could get. Am I just at the limit of my setup or is my board faulty?

AthlonPowers

I personally think my systems stability is coming from my power supply.

My previous chip was a Winchester 3000+ which ran at a stable 280x9 (2520Mhz) for months. Then one day it would boot but started crashing randomly. Ordered and fitted a new PSU an Antec Truepower 480W and it solved my problems (I'm also running a Radeon 9800Pro which would occasionally say It didn't have a Molex plugged into it which gave me an indication that the PSU was weak - I don't get that now).

PLUS the new memory controller on the chip seems a lot more forgiving compare with my Winnie.

Because you are running a nv6800 ultra (I assume) I would definitely get a bigger PSU if you
want to go faster (no guarantees) if you can justify the cost.

The TP2 380 only has 2a less on each 12v rail (16a each). It's pretty damn good.

Let's see some temperatures/Prime95 running/Task Manager/etc. We can see that it runs at 2.9 Ghz, now let's see it under some stress.
