Hello

I don't know much about laptops, looking for a decent one.

Should be good enough to run some games on (not crazy strong ones like Crysis).
Not heavy.
13 to 15 inch screen would be good.
Comfortable keyboard to type in lessons.

Thanks

gaming laptops are never all that great unless you spend $$$

you are better off getting a gaming desktop and something small and light for classes

Clandren is right. It is much like trying to get one of those amphibious sports cars. Sure, it is a car, and sure it is a boat, but it isn't either of those things very well.

Get a small/cheap laptop for notes and classes (preferably with a strong battery so you don't have to lug a power adapter). And then drop a few hundred into a desktop and you can have yourself a quite respectable gaming system.

What kind of laptop of that sort would you recommend?
And how much do you think it will cost buying a simple laptop like that and a decent gaming desktop?

Thanks

I think a DELL XPS 15" one is the best in your case... But be warned i had to refund my original m1330 due to several heat and performance related reason's

Well, a lot of people like Netbooks for that sort of thing. They run about $400 or less for a good one. You get about a 10" screen, decent hard drive, wireless, XP Home and usually 1GB of RAM. However, the keyboard is small, so I suggest testing before hand.

Then, you can build a pretty solid gaming system for about $700 bucks (at least that was what hte price was last I checked on Newegg). That was a 2.5GHz Dual Core intel, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 9800GTX, case, PSU, and 20" widescreen monitor.

You can save in some places there though. If you already have a monitor, or don't need that much hard drive space... or don't need the 9800GTX (heck my 7800GTX gets the job done just fine, it is just that the 9800GTX is like $150 and 4x as powerful).

hell, in hot deals people have been getting refurbed mini 9's for $200 or so, depending on options and buying a coupon. if its just to take notes a real cheap unit might be ok if he will have a desktop.

Here's the best laptop for your requests:

Don't get a Dell.:disgust::thumbsdown:

well, the desktop gives him flexibility, while the netbook gives him portability.

2 computers is a better solution than 1. even with a budget of 800, if he already has the LCD for teh desktop, then 200 for the netbook is fine... 600 for the PC will make a really good PC.
