Hi!!@#$@!#

I need to know what is the average cpu temperature on a 950 amd socket athlon. My bios is @ default setting and the tempurature shows a high 40 C. When i uses programs it shows a crazy 50 C and when i play quakeIII/other games it goes up to 61 C. I am not very familiar with this cuz it's my first athlon ... but i would appreciate some input.

THANKS!
Here's my system spec:
ABIT KT7 RAID
950 AMD ATHLON socket (retail)
18WD 160 hdd
adaptec 19160 scsi controller
sblive! platinum
ASUS V7700 del
front/rear case fan
hdd cooler with heatsink and 2 fans
slot fan

With my 900Mhz, I get around 35-40 when web browsing, and it goes up to 43-44 when playing intense games

Yeah...it's the amd hs/f...

is 60 high for intense gaming?
i noticed that it's around 45 in my pc health bios feature, but when using via's hardware monitoring software it's about 5C to 10C less. Is VIAhm wrong?

i have 750 runnin @ 950 stable. And i run between 29 and 43 depending on stress level(load). My temps are low but ive heard many that are up to 54c
doesnt seem to be a problem over 50 but over 60 doesnot sound right.

Yeah that seems a bit high. I would try reseating the HSF on the Athlon chip carefully. Perhaps use some high-quality thermal grease applied sparingly.

Jonny...
Instability? ... my cpu is not oc'd...
The only problem i have is scandisk and defraging hdd.
For some reason it just locks my system...GGggrrrr...
I'm running windows ME and heard that there might be conflicts or difficulties if your processor runs over 933mhz and your hdd has a large cache buffer. I'm also using a scsi controller along with a scsi drive.
I have a feeling that my m/b doesn't like it for some reason. I have to go purchase an ide drive soon to see what the problem is.

got any info on this problem?

Mine hover around 60C+ under heavy use. It's a 1.1ghz T-bird. Seems to run OK, despite the high temps. The heatsink is hot so I know it's making proper contact, but more than likely I need to look for a better one pretty soon.

The heat sink is hot?
My heat sink is barely warm...
and my cpu goes 60 when i do intense gaming...
i'm going to redo the heat sink/fan and just put some thermal paste on it
...
i also got a set of taisol fans ...

hope they run better and quieter...
