AVC Sunflower, nothing but quality

Just wanted to get the word out on this great cooler, I just got mine a few days ago. The base had a protective film over it, really nice, when I removed it the copper surface was extremly smooth, no need to lap it. The cooler is really solid looking, nice quality, looks cool too.

After getting it on my board with some AS 3, the Idle temps seems around the same, maybe 1-2c lower. But I was pretty amazed at the load temp. My 1.8 northwood at 2.4Ghz with the retail sink was around 48c at load, with the sunflower it never goes over 40-41 (MBM 5 stats).

Really good fan for anyone looking for a better one than the retail sink. Fan is a tad louder than the retail sink since it's at 5000RPM, still nothing compared to the fans on AMD chips (I just came from a 6800rpm delta myself).

Did get yours for $15 through the post in the Anandtech deals forum?

The only problem with the Sunflower, as far as I am concerned...it that it produces noticeably more noise than the stock Intel heatsink. It sounds more like an Athlon heatsink. 🙂

The 15 dollar sunflower is a clone, it is not the real Sunflower, not even an OEM sunflower. I know because I bought one, and returned it, cause it's not the same.

The sunflower fan sounds just as quiet as the intel sink, you ain't gonna have a silent fan unless it's REALLY slow, like the retail sink, which takes a beating at load because of that. Sunflower is very quite for a 5000/5400RPM fan. I just came from a 6800RPM delta that was at about 50db, the sunflower is pretty much silent for me.

The $15 is a clone? Hmmm, what is the difference? The specs looks the same. How much you pay for your SUnflower?

The cheap one from PC Power and Cooling may or may not be a clone, but in the hot deals thread (here), Schmo states that the box his came in had an AVC sticker on it. But yours didn't have a sticker on it anywhere...

I called them and they said all the spec on the one at pcpower&cooling are correct and therefor it should be exactly what is listed there....rpm, cfm, size, even the copper core...all the same...

You know, fans don't have to operate at a fixed RPM. Speedfan can vary the RPM of your fan based on temp readings. This is the way all fans should work instead of just operating @ max RPM.

Well my PCPAC hsf had no AVC anywhere on it, they don't state it's AVC, I was misinformed to thinking it was a sunflower. Same Specs may be, but it's a 3rd party made HSF then, a "clone". Which is nothing wrong, but I like to have the real thing.

I talked to a few people that compared them side by side, and they said they have physical differences, and you can tell them apart. I just don't wanna have a maybe so product. What's 10 dollars in the long run anyways.

My $19 PCPAC Sunflower clone has an AVC sticker on the box and one right on the fan. I'm going to assume it's the real deal.

Yourself, I ordered one of those as well. How does it perform? Did you notice any differences vs. the stock HSF ?

Similiar to what Dash noted...a couple degrees at idle, but substantial difference(5-7c) under load vs. the retail sink.

the unit I recieved from PCPAC had 3 things that tell me it is in fact a true AVC Sunflower. THe sticker said "AVC" on it, the instructions say "AVC" on them, and the specs are identical. I also compared it to a $30 AVC sunflower and if there is a difference I sure couldn't tell, identical. As far as performance, not much diff at idle, but a good 8-10 deg at load.

<< Got mine today as well. Just a hefty chunk of hardware. Cost me $30 though, but it's certainly well built >>

Yea it's really solid, nice design, worth every penny.

Yourself: Does your pcpac "sunflower" has copper core? I just received mine but am afraid to remove the bottom sticker. Doesn't look copper at the center.
