Who besides me predicted this?
No it will not.
AND: it's still unprofitable, despite all the stupid press who have no clue about film revenues/costs.
Who besides me predicted this?
United 93 - 8.5/10 - I didn't see it so I can't say much about it but my father who has very similar tastes to me just saw it and loved it. So these are his reactions. Tension grinding at it's best despite knowing the outcome. Apparently extremely skillfully shot and edited. Collectively the passengers are the protagonist here, there is no central character obviously, but all the parts (played by unknowns thankfully) are very convincing.
lolwutThis is not KT's legendary review thread, this is an Avatar thread

James Cameron weaves stories that envelope you in his world. Terminator, Terminator 2, The Abyss, Aliens, True Lies even.. all of them make you care about the characters and what happens to them. You become a part of their lives in the world they live in.
Titanic and Avatar are his crown achievements in this regard. People weep for what happens to Jack and Kate as well as Sully and Neytiri. People may dismiss the films as pop culture banality, but they are actually some of the finest amalgamations of emotion infused into film. He drags you kicking and screaming into a fantasy world and makes you care about 8 ft. aliens and their planet.
Anyways, haters gonna hate. :awe:

Could there be something wrong with you? :\I've seen the trailers, heard the hype, and read (some of) the threads, and STILL don't care to see this movie. What the hell is wrong with everyone else?![]()

67% of titanic came frm overseas as well this is not new
""you have never seen the movie therefore your opinion of the movie is completely worthless.
You're kidding right? I didn't even know who James Cameron was till you posted this. This is the guy that everyone is kissing his ass? The only good movie on that list is Titanic. Dude is not Quentin Tarantino or Spielberg.

Movies cost more now, so comparing them is pointless.
True but a lot more people were likely to buy a ticket back when, and now most of the people seem to just sit and wait until a good CAM is released or a DVDscr. They won't even pay 5$ to go to the movies. So comparing them really might not be that far fetched.
Zzz...
Do Avatar fanbois need to keep justifying EVERY DAY why they think the movie is "teh bestest EVAR"? Really? Are they that insecure with their fawning admiration? Here we are, subject again to yet ANOTHER thread about Avatar making big $$$? D:
Again kids, it's really simple: popular <> good.

What is an IMAX theater? My closest local cineplex theater is showing it:I wonder how much the fact that it is in Imax in 3D is driving ticket sales? I have already seen the movie once with the wife and we have talked about going back to see it again in Imax 3D because we know eventually it will be out of theathers and watching it on DVD or BLU-RAY will not be the same. It is just a visual experience. I remember 15+ years ago wondering when regular movies would come out in IMAX instead of just science shows. I remember several years ago watching Attack of the Clones in IMAX when there was a special release of the movie in that format and being blown away about how it looked on the screen. Had to drive over a hour to the nearest IMAX theather.

Avatar 3D
So, two different ways. Is there another way, i.e. IMAX 3D? Should I hold out for that? I want the best experience if I'm going out to the movies.
IMAX is a film format designed to be higher resolution (can't find the exact spec) than traditional films shot in 35mm. Yes, there is an IMAX 3D format too. You have to go to a dedicated IMAX theater in order to view these types.
Is this consensus?Saw it both in 2D and IMAX, Both had their own charm... didn't miss anything in 2D, IMAX 3D was too complicated to watch
