I'm going out on a limb and assuming the OP is 7 years old. What an immature little child. And I have no beef with Avatar.

Yea, they really should include metrics for # of tickets sold to compare movies in different time periods since inflation is not something that the movie has a say in or gets to control. Then again, I don't think that would be fair to Gone with the Wind since it would have maybe the least # of tickets sold while having the biggest record when corrected for inflation. There has to be a middleground somewhere.

Um actually if you adjust for inflation Gone with the Wind is the highest grossing film of all time because of the number of tickets sold, IE: It has sold more tickets than any other movie, ever.

Either way comparing movies by inflation is essentially the same thing as comparing movies by gross because neither of comparisons are entirely fair. Like when Gone with the Wind was big it was in the theaters for literally years, and it had very little to no competition with other movies. In today's age there's so much competition from not only other movies, but internet/pirating and television, among others.

Old movies cannot be compared because they get released and re-released and over and over. However I think it's fair to compare Spiderman, Spiderman 2, Matrix, Dark Knight, Titanic, and Avatar using inflation adjustments.

Movies like Star Wars and some Disney movies get re-releases, so you can't compare. The same with Gone With the Wind. However, Titanic's figures are very impressive because 1997 dollars would inflate it a lot more in 2010 money.

Does the OP remind anybody of cartman in the episode with mel gibson and passion of the christ? I'm reading the text and hearing cartman's voice in my head.

My gloating has just begun.

I'm too lazy to dig up old threads with people going, "They'll be lucky to make back their production costs", "it's going to flop", "dances with smurfs", etc. etc.

You guys were WRONG :awe:

Some guys beat off to Roadhouse. You, you beat off to Avatar.

it doesn't matter how much it makes.
even the film spotting folks have weighed in.

saying pretty much what the haters have already said, but in a more eloquent fashion😉
its visually innovative, but the story is sh*t.
in the end that will doom it from ever becoming a classic, eventually a film with high tech visuals and a story worthy of it and avatar will be forgotten.

Box Office Mojo guys predicted 4th weekend at $42-$43 million. Now they're raising it with some predictions in the 50s now. Easily surpassing $420 million by next Monday.

It is very likely that Avatar (01/03/2010 $1,025,378,961)has taken 3rd place overall for all time gross sales over that of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1,066,179,725). And, soon will take over LOTR: The Return of the King ($1,119,110,941).

Avatar might even have a chance to take over Titanic ($1,842,879,955) at poll position if it stay in theatre for 10 months like Titanic.

LOL at everyone that said "this will be a bust", "will catch it on netflix", "who cares", etc. etc.

Suck on it. Cameron will have the two highest grossing films of all time.

CAMERON BITCHES. RECOGNIZE. :awe:

i still haven't watched it, i will when it's free, it's a movie, get over it, unless you are named Cameron sounds like you are trying to crawl up someones pant leg to swing.

Very impressive. I still haven't seen it and very likely won't until it comes out on VOD/Bluray.

And your indie band you love sold 30,000 copies and is still a pile of shit 🙄

did you just argue that hannah montana is a musical genius?

Avatar is shitty writing with special effects for the sake of special effects to cover that up. It's like the garbage that was Titanic, just a blatant chick flick done to the absolute extreme to appeal to the retarded masses. Congratulations, the movie you're bragging about as if you're connected to it is proof that most of our country is short a chromosome or two.

"Waah things are popular and I don't like popular things!" :'(

Go find some more obscure things to be proud of cool guy. :awe:
