My school offers Norton AV Corp Edition free to all students so I was wondering which is less memory/CPU/HDD intensive, Norton or Avast because it seems that on my laptop (with its slow laptop hdd) spends a lot of time lagging because Avast keeps spinning and scanning so I wondered whether switchng to Norton AV would be better.

Corp is a better solution IMHO. Less resource usage, better GUI, better virus detection, and tons of customization options. Be sure you do the (full) server install instead of client only. ;)
