Avast updating more often that set to?

I've been a loyal Avast (Free) user for years and really like it. I set it up with all the cloud, online reports, advertising and such turned off. I also set it to automatically update weekly instead of daily.

Lately I've noticed that it updates virus definitions almost daily. I got an update message both yesterday and today. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I hope so. Updating weekly is crazy.

It's been updating my PCs several times a week for at least 4 years now.

I use avast! Internet Security which is a paid version and 3 updates a day is not unusual.
I have sometimes had 4.

As far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier.
