Avast File Reputation Warnings and blurred text

When I am connected to the internet and scroll down a page the text becomes very blurred and within a minute or two the text becomes clear again. When I'm on a page with blurred text and tab to another page then back to the original the text is clear. Sometimes when I just scroll my mouse arrow over blurred text it becomes clear. Text in my Word files offline is not blurred, only text that is on the internet. I'm getting two tabs on the lower right corner on the screen while online asking if I remember correctly to either speed up Firefox or Remind Me Later. Also, lately I have been getting several of these Avast warnings:

File Reputation Warning
The file you are downloading seems to be very new or rare
AdobeAir_3.9.0.1380_SPS.exe
Origin: http://dl.secunia.co....0.1380_SPS.exe
Downloaded by: C:programFiles\Secunia\PSI\PSIA.exe
ACTIONS TO TAKE:abort the connection (recommended)

I chose to abort the connection each time as Avast recommended. Also, when I ran Avast scanner last week it found one corrupted file. Something like .pup. I ran ESET and Malwarebytes at the same time and they found no infected files. Thanks for any replies.

So you are running ESET and Avast at the same time? Running two antivirus programs at the same time is never a good idea. If you paid for ESET, uninstall the Avast.

Forgive me, but what I think is not smart, forget, never emblematic of class and elegance, forget emotional health, is making fun of any other human who has yet to learn any given thing. Because the latter is a normal, heady part of life for anyone human making a journey, and NOT living in UNWITTING terror and low self esteem, always needing to CONVINCE OTHERS THEY KNOW EVERYTHING.

Such normal, healthy humans earn props.

What you posted, is an actual form of abuse/bullying. Please ponder.

I posted here too because I was not getting any responses at the other site. I rarely post a problem on more than one site. The blurred text problem was my Firefox browser because last night I connected with IE and my computer ran fine and today voila! it's running fine with Firefox. How could it have repaired itself?

I got another of the same Avast File Reputation Warning notices when starting my computer today.

I believe I was told by a techie on a computer help forum to have both ESET and Avast. I don't have ESET running all the time as a firewall but only use ESET online scanner every week or two. I run Avast as a firewall continuously and run the Avast scanner every week or two also.

Should I do anything about the .pup corrupted file that Avast found a couple weeks ago?

Just did some fast delving.....clearly, a Reputation based warning is not a definitive alert.
The app may just be unfamiliar with the item in question.

Software can only be discerning up to a certain level, after all.

Firefox has been updating a good bit over the past several months, so it is possible an update (to the browser or one of your plugins) fixed the blurry issues.

Eset and Avast are both running in the background, whether or not you choose to scan with them. Pick one and remove the other. Firefox has been updating a good bit over the past several months, so it is possible an update (to the browser or one of your plugins) fixed the blurry issues.

Would that be true if he is only running the stand alone online ESET scanner?

As for the file reputations, I don't get into those. If you go to the Adobe site, are you going to get a virus by downloading Flash, no. When a new version comes out, is the "file reputation" going to give you pause since the version number is different? Probably. I'm all for common sense in place of this.

I do the same. Or, don't do it....get into those, I mean. I only pay attention when Norton tells me it has fended off something evil. So far, only twice. But twice is still huge.

You really need to be careful where you download from. There are lots of sites that will look like legit downloads but in fact will fubar your machine. Look in Avast and see what that .pup (potentially unwanted program) is. If it does turn out to be something malicious, they tend to be like cockroaches. If you find one there are probably more in your PC and you will want to follow up with super anti-spyware, spybot and combofix.

Malwarebytes detected this file within the last four weeks or so:Files Detected: 1
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\YTD Video Downloader\ytd_installer.exe (PUP.Optional.Spigot.A) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Malwarebytes found this on 12/2 and the last time I scanned with Malwarebytes on 12/27. Between 12/2 and 12/27 I scanned with Malwarebytes and it found nothing. Avast Scanner has detected nothing on my computer for several months. Did Malwarebytes successfully delete the detected file as the text says so I need do to nothing about the detected file?

The Avast File Reputation Warning pops up every time I start my computer. If it's a false warning how do I stop the pop-ups? Thanks.

Is the pop-up for the same file MBAM detected, or for something different this time?

This is the Avast warning file: AdobeAir_3.9.0.1380_SPS.exe.

This is the MBAM detected file: CDocuments and Settings\All Users\Application Data\YTD Video Downloader\ytd_installer.exe (PUP.Optional.Spigot.A) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

The above, what was found in the installer, is an actual trojan. So, if MBAM removed it that's a good thing.

Does the app itself, this Video Downloader still function? I would right click on it and scan it to make sure it's clean.

Have you installed the Air yet? If not, it may be asking to run the installer at startup. I would think there would be a way to tell the warning to allow this file. The only thing curious to me is that if I download this file from Adobe or FileHippo, the installer file is AdobieAIRInstaller.exe, not the one you mentioned. Now that doesn't mean the file you are seeing isn't valid, as it could be a valid executable within the download. And there is a version of AIR with that version number, and it is the latest non-beta version.

Really good questions re the installer file.

The video downloader is YTD. It still functions, and I scanned it with MBAM which found nothing. In my Control Panel Adobe Air is listed on the left, but under file size on the right it's blank. So I guess Air is not installed. Should I allow it to be installed the next time I restart my computer and get the Avast warning for Air?

Do you realise that the 'PUP' prefix on malware names means it has been classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program, not a trojan? Things like crap toolbars get classified as this typically because they don't have any trojan-like qualities in themselves.

Re: Blurry text in Firefox - I realise that the issue has disappeared, but if you notice that again or any other page rendering issues in Firefox, try switching off Firefox's hardware acceleration option (Options > Advanced > General > 'use hardware acceleration when available'. I've seen a lot of issues with it and ATI/AMD graphics systems.

I switched off the hardware acceleration option a few days ago after googling the problem and have not had a problem with blurred text in Firefox since.

First of all I'll advice you to get rid of all these non essential security programs you have, install just one AV(ideally it should have a firewall) & do get rid of multiple programs that perform the same task like ESET/AVAST or even Secunia's PSI/Malwarebytes. If however you're looking for a free AV suite(with firewall) then I suggest you take a look at this since Comodo does provide an excellent alternative(to paid apps) that's also free to use.
