Every so often the Avast anti-virus protection turns of and I have to turn it back off ( Your computer is unprotected message) . I have tried the repaid utilily, full uninsall (using the special avast tuility ) and fresh installation and still have this problem. I have also run a number of scans with other AV programs and Malwarebyes to make sure the PC does not have some sort of viirus tha is turning of the Avast protection . I know that there many decent alternative free AV programs but I really would like to know what is making this happened.

I am running windows 10 . (up to date - Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3206632) ).

When avast is running, is Windows Defender turned off? Is Windows Defender running when Avast turns off?

Along with what Ketchup said, are these other AV programs installed at the same time?

Bo windows defender is not active when Avat Protection turns off.

No other are AV progams are installed . The scans I have done are with eset-nod online scanner and another, Malwarebytes free version is installed and in the manual mode.

This sounds like some anomalies I have encountered with the Windows 10 upgrade. Is your install fresh or an upgrade?

Windows 10 on this machimeis an upgrade . I don't remember expericince this problem until fairly recently For now, I am using windows defender (without cloud) until I can figure this out. I am also running a scan with Malwarebytes free editon every few days.

Personally, I am comfortable with Defender. I was helping a friend a month or so back with AV issues, also running the upgrade. He didn't want to "settle" for MSE after running into some Malware, but but we tried at leat 4 different AV's before we found one, Norton, which ran on the Windows 10 upgrade without issue.
