Availability of 7800GTX 512 = x800xt PE/6800Ultra

Looks like nvidia went out just to grab the headlines and performance crown. Seeing this card trickles in a few at a time is definitely a step backwards from their 7800GT/GTX launches. Just when you think the industry is starting to take a turn for the better, they go back to the basics.

I'm sure they knew full well that the faster RAM would be quite scarce and hinder production but it seems that the guarantee of having a faster card at the sacrifice of availability was a clear decision for them.

Definately not the 7800GTX launch. But Newegg is getting a shipment of them in on the 6th.

Had one on order for some time but MSI is VERY slowly trickling in supply to the etailer I was buying it from for MSRP and I'm a little bit down on the order list. Instead he's giving me a great deal on a x1800xt that I just couldn't pass up. I'd love to have a 7800GTX 512 but I'm not one to pay above an already high msrp which is what the "in stock" places are asking. For the deal he gave me, I'll have a x1800xt and a mother board for the price of one card. Good enough for me and I don't have to wait. Waiting isn't one of my strong points :(

maybe if there was a bigger supply that drove the prices down ;)

True that, but would Nvidia even supply enough for that to happen anyway?

It a very poor supply right now. Doesnt matter to me, I wouldnt buy it for $750 anyways. But as someone said.. if there were more, it wouldnt be $750 to start with. Hopefully more will flood in, and prices will go down.

Its a huge step back for NV though, with the release of the GTX/GT's.

Yeah, this is pretty disappointing. Hopefully these will be in greater supply around the christmas shopping period. I would consider getting one for $600-650 but not any more than that. The 7800GT SLI option is looking increasingly better for me despite the few SLI issues.

ide rather get teh x1800xt over this card which performs maybe 20fps higher in most games? $200 price difference=$100 per 10fps. Actually nvm that ide wait for the r580.

Something tells me that by the time R580 launches there will be greater avalibility of these cards, while everyone will ask where is the R580?!!!

Supply and demand.

Agreed, because when the 1.1ns becomee available in mass quantites it will dirve the prices down on the 7800GTX 512mb. According to the INQ NV isnt havent problem with yields, nor production. Its just the fact its hard to come buy 512mb of 1.1ns GDDR3 ram.

However, when the R580is released, the G71 might show its face as well.

It could be that Samsung is also trying to ask for top dollar for this new memory, and to keep it at top dollar for as long as possible (as long as other memory makers, Infineon,Hynix, don't offer competitive RAM soon enough) they will trickle the memory out to Nvidia and ATI and their associated partners. Hey, it's a possibility.

OK - I can agree with you in theory, but I don't think all of those "ATI sucks because all of their new parts are paper launched" posts are from people who were going to buy the parts.

We are talking about the fact that newegg, zipzoomfly. monarchpc, tigerdirect, etc do not have them in stock. Of course we have "seen" them in stock before, however they are not now. Try taking off the blinders, and looking with a non-bias view.

Totally agree. You could have stopped there, but.......... nah, right?

Totally and completely rude and unnecessary.

Its not rude, its factual. If I was rude, I would have called him a nVidiot. He continuously posts in such a bias manner, and I called him on it. Get over it. When will you ever learn that I dont care what you think about me, and you posting behind me all the time doesnt effect me.

OP. As soon as 1.1ns GDDR3 production is ramped higher you will see more GTX512's. As of right this moment however, it does look like the X800XTPE launch. Hopefully that will change. But that price tag is quite hefty so it may not matter if stock becomes available for most.

in all honesty, i think this was a real crappy launch for nV. if we are gonna call ATi out on their launches, we should do the same for nV

Correct but nvidia was well aware on the lack of supply of such new mem. This was still acceptable to them since their only goal was to trump the x1800xt with a faster card. The faster memory would ensure that. I'm sure they tested slower mem and the results weren't as impressive thus they had to take the plunge and go with the 1.1 mem knowing full well that they would not be able to produce this card is adequate quantities. If the 7800GTX 512 was released with 550/1600 clocks, it wouldn't be as dominant thus not as desired especially considering the price difference, unless ofcourse the MSRP was set to match the x1800xt but that was never the intention of the 7800GTX 512.
