Building new system, have all except the video card. My AG8 requires a pxc card. Anyone have clue when the 6600gt's or 6800gt/pcx(much later I guess) will be available retail? I think the oem's are getting the 6600gt's since they are offering them on new pc's. I am anxiously awaiting a card, woulf jump on a 6600gt if I could get one cause I know they're pcx native.
Any info on where they might be available/when??

welcome to the forums, first off PCX is not the same as PCI-E, PCIX is a workstation 64bit PCI slot, PCI-E is the thing you are thinking of. See my video card FAQ. The PCI-E 6800GTs will probably not get to us for just a lil while longer. As to when exactly that is, it is anyones guess.

I had e-mailed NVidia asking this very question, and they said the 6800 series of PCI Express cards should be available in early October.

PCI-E 6600's will come BEFORE the AGP 6600's I believe, as the 6600 is PCI-E native and will later be bridged to AGP.
The X700 cards from ATi should be out around the same time, if you want to look into that as well.
So far there are only preliminary numbers, but they look competitive.

I know the 6600's will be first, and as I said I probably would buy one just to get the machine up and running. I HAVE heard rumors about the end of this month. Hopefully I can buy a 6600gt pci express card by late September. Thanks for all the input fellas!

Er, Schaden, PCX is what nVidia is calling their PCIe cards. I get where you were going, though.

Yeah, no clue on a solid date, but the 6600GT should be out first. Jump on it when you see a preorder. :)

Newegg has some 50 or so PCI Express x16 cards with anything from an X300 SE to an X800 XT but no 6600GT yet, probably mid to late Oct is my guess, but who really knows?

I thought the NDA was getting lifted tomorrow, not that the card was getting released?

PCI express motherboards and video cards are the new fad, and being such they are wildly over priced and over hyped, thus making them very poor value, while providing no performance advantage whatsoever comapred to agp. The only advantage being upgradability - that is, not having to upgrade the motherboard in the future. But, as we all know, by the time you upgrade your video card, you will also want to upgrade the motherboard, and anyway it will still be cheaper because of the money saved today (which has higher future value - see economics 101).

^^ Yeah, but the original poster said he already has his mobo and everything else put together, so he's doesn't have a choice but to get a PCI-E card.

Anyone notice, the release date at gameve website for 6600gt's seems to be getting pushed back. Now they're saying early October release. Even the one 6600 they list is apparently in very short supply.
Anyone know of other places that have these cards listed for sale?

Xtreme Gear have them listed as shipping next day on their web site. I'm waiting for a reply from them on the stock status.

edit: just got a reply from Xtreme Gear

"The video card is currenlty not in stock. The ETA is around 10/08/04"

This is one messed up video card generation. I get the feeling both ATI and Nvidia launched products before they were completely ready.

You know the saying,"You can never have too much competition"? Well, I think that the competitiveness between ATI and Nvidia has done more harm than good. It seems that both companies are stumbling over their own technologies to try to keep up with the other who is stumbling just as much. Rushing things to market that don't belong there yet or are not ready. Trying to one an two up the other guy.

The likes of this has never been seen before. Hands down, this is the most ridiculous crap I have ever seen when it comes to corporate willingness to slit ones own throat to get ahead. I'm amazed. One of them, if not both will eventually fall if this continues. And a new one will take their place.
