AV8 & SATA HDD

Well, I got my mobo to post and everything seems to be in order but my BIOS is not recognizing my 2 SATA hard drives. SATA is enabled and everything is connected properly. I tried to load the drivers from the disk when installing XP but it's still not recognizing them. Of course, ABIT's site has been down for 2 days (I can't access it at least). Any suggestions?

What happens is, when the SATA Raid ROM is enabled, the BIOS doesnt detect, but the VIA SATA Interface does, to load windows you will have to use the Raid disk that came with your mobo, press F6 when ur loading XP, and scroll down to the bottom till you see the via drivers for win XP, or wahtever your OS is....

now if your not running raid, you can disable the ROM in your bios, and the bios will then detect the SATA drive(s) as another "IDE" device.

Good luck, i hope you havel ess problems than i have had, and am still having.

Hey, thanks for the reply, somehow, magically, it's working now even before I could try your helpful suggestion. I hate when things don't work, then do for no apparent reason  Waiting for the Hard Drive(s) to partition now - keeping my fingers crossed.

BTW - I don't know what fragging problems ABIT is having but their web site has been more or less inaccessible for the last few days. That hasn't helped matters much. I heard tell that they are in financial woes...I'm wondering if there's a connection.

well maybe you can hit me up on AIM, cause i need help with my machine too, my SN is maintarget2343 if you have a chance 🙂

I'm not the most knowledgable person to ask but I have been doing some reading on my various components and there is a known issue with Antec PSU's and the AV8 board. It's the older PSU's (no one has been able to define this) but the true power models were the main culprits. I'm actually using a neopower PSU and haven't had any issues. Not sure if this is part of your problem but it could be.

Other issue out there is with the pre1.5 bios in the Winchester cpu's but that typically won't let the board POST (although a few people have had unusual manifestations).

My mobo sits on 48 as well so I am assuming this is normal. Maybe install Windows without SP2? I have seen some complaints about SP2 but I haven't read the threads to see what the nature of the issues are about.

Right now, I am on my wife's laptop (I had to borrow the graphics card out of my old system because mine hasn't arrived yet) so I don't have AIM installed.
