AV8 Dual Channel ram not working please help.

I have an ABIT Av8 mobo, not sure of the bios version, but i bought it early 2005. Never had a problem with the Corsair XMS 512 ram that i had in DIMM1. now I buy corsair TWINX 2g pc3200 XMS ram, power down system, take out the old 512 mb of ram, install ram in DIMM1 and DIMM2 slots just like the manual says, so now i have 1gig of ram in dimm1 and dimm2, it works for 1.5 days. then BAM out of no where while playing a memory demanding game my whole system crashes and tries to reboot. I reboot with no video, so i go and pull my computer apart and find that it is only "posting" to C3. I knew that wasen't right, so i grab the manual and look up that code. It says "expand compressed bios code to DRAM", So i knew this had something to do with my new ram. So i put 512 ram back in there and my system boots up. What did i do wrong? Do i need to configure the Bios or something? I was under the impression that i could just throw the DC ram in DIMM1 and 2 or DIMM3 and 4 respectively and it would automatically work in 128bit mode. I have posted on abit forums but the forum seems to be dead. Please lend me some advice. I apprecaite the help

since they are not a pair of the same memory, try inserting each in the dimm 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 slots. It may be that your mobo is trying to run it in dual channel mode while your memory cannot.

thanks for posting but i think you misread what i was saying. I took the 512mb of ram out before i put the twinx 2g ram in. so the 512mb ram was in Dimm1, i took it out and replaced it with the twinx ram that sits in Dimm1 and Dimm2. dimm3 and dimm4 are un used. However this configuration does not work.

I would post with your old stick, and change your memory timings. I had a similar problem. These are the timings I use:

Cas latency 2.5
Ras# to cas# delay 6 clocks
Ras# precharge 3 clocks
Cycle time (tras) 6 clocks
Command rate 2T
Your bios settings may vary.
