This Sonic-T looks like what I'm looking for but seems a little cheap somehow. What is Class T? Is that new? I've only ever heard of CLass A or B. Guess I'll find some reviews...

I used to have a class T amp for my car made by Blaupunkt. It was a VERY nice amp. A class T amp is basically a Class D amp with the Tri-path chip in it. It's as efficient as A class D amplifier but it's as clean as class A & AB, or very close. The Blaupunkt was also extremely small for it's output. Very efficient and didn't generate that much heat (the one I had had a removable plastic cover instead of the usual heatsink, I mounted it under my seat easily).

Anyone know if Paradigm Atoms are shielded? I can find where it indicates. Anyone have experience with these?

Also, anyone have experience with the Polk R15s?

Well thanks, YOyoYOhowsDAjello - I took a look at the speakers and ordered a pair yesterday! They were most helpful over at AV123.com, too. While browsing their website I came across a posting that I wanted to let you know about. They are giving away a pair of muy expensive Epiphany 12-12 Line Source speakers via a charity raffle conducted for the benefit of the Katrina victims. 300 tickets are being sold at $100 each, so the odds of getting this monster speaker system are 1/300.

Here is the link to the charity for Katrina posting:

I also mentioned this in a separate topic earlier. I have no dealings with AV123.com except for the speakers I purchased yesterday; this is just to pass along the charity work they are doing.

 I linked to the raffle in the Katrina thread, but I don't think anybody noticed (acutally I didn't check).

Did you check out how big the speakers are?

I hope you like them. Let us know.

This one? http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-764

As for the Klipsch speakers, the ones that I have heard have had kind of a distinct sound due to their horn loaded tweeters. You could bet on these sounding a lot different, but "better" would be a personal thing.

Looking quickly online... those rb5s go for about $600? It might be more fair to compare them to RS250s

Well I must say they are very friendly over there. I wasn't even going to order anything but decided to give the LRS' a try, and then today decided what the heck, I should have a consistent front soundstage so I also ordered the CSE center channel speaker. I can't wait to give a listen to them! Luckily the shipping deadline passed before I could tempt myself into adding even more stuff to the order.

As for the speakers in the raffle, I've never seen anything like those. BIG is an understatement. I'd have to take the roof off!

I was really impressed with the forum and the tech support given by them.

These can be powered by a wall wart? Can they just be powered by a receiver using normal speaker wire?

I'm really thinking about getting this... Right now I have 2 speakers in my system, Polk LSi 9's. I'd only use the ELT's for movies and surround gaming. Music would only be the Polk's. Do you think it'll be a big deal, not having speakers that match?

The sonic t-amp can be powered with a wall wart, and that can be used to drive the speakers.

These are normal bookshelf speakers, so a receiver will work perfectly.

The front three are more important to get matched. The rears don't matter as much.

Holy crap a lot more people here know about AV123 that I would have imagined.... good job Jello!

Yeah, there are more here than I would have guessed too.

I'm liking my new risers by the way. If nothing else, it makes them look a lot more impressive 😉

Well after checking out the AV123 website plus corresponding with a couple of their employees, I don't mind helping to spread the good word about them. Of course I haven't even heard the speakers I ordered yet, but I feel good about my purchase. They seem like a really customer-oriented company. Thanks Jello! (You don't mind if I shorten your name, do you? Your full moniker doesn't pass the spell check).

And if you don't like it, they'll be happy to take them back from you too. (you have to pay to ship them back though... some companies don't make you, which is even more incredible)

I was very impressed with the customer support I got from AV123, Ascend Acoustics, and SVS as well. These internet only companies really know how to do a good job communitating with customers over e-mail.

No problem calling me Jello either. I respond to quite a variety of names 🙂

Bought them. Buy buy buy. That's my motto. Now I'm going to avoid AT hot deals for a few months, so i'm not tempted to buy other things.

Well thanks to Jello who helped lighten my wallet, I went and bought three of the ELT centers to spread around the front and two of the LRS surrounds for the back. The folks at AV123.com are very nice and helpful. I spent a whole bunch of time perusing their forum over the weekend and it further convinced me that this is a great company to deal with. I have yet to hear the speakers because they'll be arriving this week so I'm just going by what I've read but so far I like what I see. Had I a bigger budget I surely would have given UPS more business! As it is I am now watching for when the subwoofers go on sale.
