AV software for servers?

Perhaps a dumbass question, but here goes...

Should AV software be installed on servers? If so, would you use a different version or just the same exact version you put on your desktops?

It should and I generally use the same brand that I use on desktops. Makes updating the defs easier.

Not a stupid question at all. And yes, AV software should be installed. The only thing you have to worry about as far as desktop versions on servers are if they are compatible. Some AV programs won't install the desktop version on a Server OS.

It really depends on what the server does. If you are only installing know software on the server, not browsing the internet to unknown sites on the server, and not executing un-trusted executable files on the server then anti virus is worthless.

A good firewall to prevent worms and other exploits is a must, but antivirus is more of a stupid user protection scheme then a requirement.
