I love auzentech as a company.
And have both a meridian and hda-xplosion card.

The killer for the xifi for me is that its still creatives software.

Yea, but its not that bad as long as you use XP. Vista + creative = death

hehe, thats a legit question. I did not specify that I ran the XtremeMusic with Vista a while ago, and it was a nightmare. I dont know how the Auzen drivers would behave thou.

JAG, you've got to run it on Vista. Not because Vista is good (it's terrible) but because it's the current OS offering by the world's #1 software company. If it's terrible, say so, and point out how and where it fails.

Yep,
Auzentechs other cards have replaceable opamps as well.
Have the meridian and explosion.
meridian has the burr brown op amps installed, haven't upgraded the explosion card yet.

I'll definitely be getting this card once a sale puts it into the $150 range. $200 is a bit much for me to justify on a sound card, especially one that hasn't realized its full potential yet (no DD-Live/DTS yet)

If one of you guys is willing to send me a spare hard drive, I will gladly install Vista and run driver tests for you guys.

Both of my Raptors are enlisted and serving in my windows XP raid 0 array, and I have no intentions of touching the array.

Are the cards comparable to a separate amp?

Not sure what you mean by a separate amp.
If you mean a separate headphone amp, like the cmoy then yeah I think they are.
I haven't put the cards on a scope to see what the sound looks like but its very very clean.

I wish more sound cards allowed the option.

Also if you notice on the auzentech cards they use metal can capacitors.
These are both better at blocking external noise and at stability.
I still don't know why creative hasn't done this with the higher end cards.

I'm going to hold off on the auzentech xifi till I see how the drivers play out.
Otherwise if you don't need the dts live stuff it looks like a solid card.

Well, I really just want DD live if possible, but if not that is ok, but I think it will have to be on the next sound card I buy.
HMM, I will have to see if I can find any Auzentech cards for cheap.

I just picked up an auzentech explosion card and it has DD live and DTS .
guy on ebay is selling them refurbished for about 60.00
Card came with everything but the box.
May be worth a look if you can't find them elsewhere.

It DOES have DD ENcoding over optical? I thought only the X-Meridian had that.
It also has user replaceable OPamps? 7.1?
What is the only drawback then?

Well if the DAC is better then the front out with the replaceable OPamps is almost not worth it?

If the DAC sucks on the card then it is no reason to even use the card to amp the phones.

The DAC doesn't suck per say....its just not that great in comparison. I replaced the Op amps in my card because I very occasionally use it to power my HD555's. Can't hurt in that situation to have better op amps.
