those apples would make a delicious apple pie!

actually they don't

correct... not right for pie, however for plain eating and also I have found they are amazing for baked apples.
I core them, make a mixture cinnamon, cloves, allspice, brown sugar oats and a bit of flour mixed with butter. Insert in the middle of cored apple and finish with more sprinkled brown sugar. Bake for about 20 minutes. Finish with a scoop of good vanilla ice cream and carmel sauce.

My wife's got a wicked "caramel" dipping sauce that they are simply divine with.

Sounds good! Something else to try:

Make your own caramel. Just make a simple syrup (sugar + water) and reduce. Eventually it'll start to go brown and thicken and turn into caramel. A neat idea would be to see if you can make a caramel where you use fresh apple juice as part of your sugar source in the caramel.

Grapple > any other apple

so I call shens on this thread!

for those who don't know what a Grapple is, is an Apple that taste like a Grape.

It's an apple soaked in white grapejuice. I thought they tasted like apples soaked in grapejuice, which is really not all that special.

They taste like a super crunchy Grape soda, man made or not they are great, because...

Grapes > Apples for taste

but Apple > Grapes for crunchiness.

a Grapple(tm) is the best of both worlds.

I ate one the other day and it was like the Kool-Aid equivalent of fruit.

DEEEELICIOUS!

buying your fruit at Walmart is prob #1 :)

local grocery store then?

they have no farmer's markets by you?

about 20 miles away but i'll check this weekend, thanks

We had to check out about 4 local supermarkets till we found one with them and we bough the last 2 bags of them. The grocer said they had received 2 pallets full of them the previous day and the all sold in less than 24 hours!

He also said that if kept in the bad in the crisper in your fridge they can last months.
